Texas Tech Forward JT Toppin is in the midst of a tremendous two-game stretch. He has 73 points, 27 rebounds, and a field-goal percentage of 74.4% over his last two games. No other Division I player or NBA player has hit those three marks over a two-game span this century. Toppin leads the team with 16.5 points per game and 9 rebounds this season. He is 31st in the nation in rebounds.
Toppin’s streak began on Wednesday at home against Arizona State. He finished with 41 points and 15 rebounds on 17-of-22 shooting from the field. Toppin’s performance helped Texas Tech prevail 111-106 in a double OT thriller. He kept up his spectacular play earlier today in a road matchup against Oklahoma State. He finished with 32 points and 12 rebounds on 12-of-17 shooting. Toppin’s performance helped the Red Raiders cruise to a 93-55 victory. Will Toppin be able to continue making history?

It has been a solid regular season for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. They are 20-5 and in second place in the Big 12. The Red Raiders were ranked No. 12 in the most recent AP Top 25 poll. Texas Tech’s offense has been strong this year. They are 25th in points per game, 36th in field goal percentage, and 22nd in three-point percentage.
The team’s defense has been mediocre this year. They are 62nd in points allowed, 100th in opponent field goal percentage, and 129th in defending the three-pointer. The Red Raiders must improve their defense to compete in the Big 12 Tournament and ultimately the NCAA Tournament.
Final Thoughts
Toppin and Texas Tech return to the hardwood Tuesday on the road against TCU. The Red Raiders then host West Virginia next Saturday. If Toppin can keep up his high level of play in the coming weeks, it will bode well for a Tech team that has been one of the sport’s most consistent teams in recent years.
