Texas Super Kings are back to their winning ways as they posted a convincing 37-run victory over the Seattle Orcas. It was tough for the Seattle side who went up against a confident Texas team that appears bent on laying claim to the playoff qualification spots. Batting first the Kings posted a competitive 173 in their 20 overs; an above-par score that the Texan bowlers could defend.
In reply, the Seattle Orcas never really got going. Despite a few starts by Quinton de Kock and Shehan Jayasuriya, the Orcas’ innings got stuck in the middle overs and never recovered. So this is another bad defeat for the team from Seattle, with a place at the bottom of the table solidified further. And with this defeat, the Orcas are out of contention to make the playoffs.
A Round Batting Performance by the Texas Super Kings

Having lost opener Devon Conway in the first over of the game, it was not an auspicious start to the Texas Super Kings batting. However, Mr. reliable Faf du Plessis as usual held things together at the top, scoring a fluent 39 off 17. He was aided by Milind Kumar who made a steady 29 off 28. Down the order impetus was injected into the innings by Calvin Savage. A South African national who blasted 46 off 27.
As the Texas Super Kings lost eight wickets, it turned out to be an all-round batting effort as the lower batsman contributed in small but significant ways, helping to push the team’s total to a competitive 177, with decent contributions from Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Santner, and Cameron Stevenson. Whilst it was by no means a match-winning score, the opposition they were faced with were the low-inconfidence Orcas.
The Seattle Orcas Struggle – As Expected
It has been one of those seasons for the Orcas. Having lost six of the seven games they have played, this has been a season to forget. Despite winning the toss and bowling, they failed to restrict the opposition. And when the chase began, there was the familiar sight of top-order players either getting knocked over low scores or getting a start than not capitalizing.
Star players for the Orcas captain Heinrich Klaasen and opener Quinton de Kock again failed to make significant contributions. In the case of Heinrich Klaasen, based on how the season has gone, he probably hasn’t recovered from South Africa’s World T20 final defeat to India in June. All in all, it was a shabby batting performance where the chasing side never looked threatening. On the bowling front for Texas, another South African Ottniel Baartman was the pick of the bowlers, taking three scalps for 20 in his four overs, and was well supported by Noor Ahmad and Calvin Savage who picked up 2 wickets each.
Texas Super Kings – Major League Cricket Title Challengers?
Texas Super Kings have not been the best side in this edition of the tournament. The standout teams for the Major League Cricket 2024 have no doubt been Washington Freedom and the San Francisco Unicorns who dominate the table with 11 points each. Whilst Texas is pretty much-guaranteed qualification, they would like to build on this performance in the last game against MI New York before the playoffs begin.
