Texas Rangers Starting Pitcher Max Scherzer made another bit of history at home on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox. With a strikeout of Designated Hitter Eloy Jimenez in the top of the second inning, Scherzer is now 10th on the all-time strikeout list. He passed another all-time great, Justin Verlander, to ascend into the top 10. Scherzer finished Thursday’s start with 3,400 career punchouts. Next up is Walter Johnson with 3,509 career strikeouts.
Scherzer made his return to the mound on June 23 after a back injury forced him to have a late start to his regular season. Scherzer dominated a scuffling White Sox team yesterday. He tossed six innings and surrendered one earned while striking out a season-high nine batters. His great start was the catalyst for the Texas Rangers winning 2-1. Scherzer is 2-3 this season with an ERA of 3.57. Will Scherzer be able to carry this momentum into the remainder of his starts this season?

When Will Scherzer Take The Mound Next?
The next scheduled start for Scherzer is on Tuesday, July 30, on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals. He last faced the Cardinals on May 18, 2022, when he was still a member of the New York Mets. He fared well as he tossed 5.2 innings and surrendered one earned run while punching out four.
Texas begins a three-game series tonight on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays. Scherzer illustrated with his start yesterday that he still has plenty left in the tank. He will bring a wealth of experience to this Rangers team over the homestretch of the 2024 regular season. It will be an uphill battle for the Texas Rangers as they look to make the 2024 MLB Playoffs and defend the World Series title. They have yet to find their stride, and with approximately 60 games left, they are running out of time to do so.
