The Texas Rangers re-signed Starting Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to a three-year $75 million contract earlier tonight. He has spent the last two seasons with the Rangers and will remain with the franchise through the 2027 season. Eovaldi is coming off a solid 2024 campaign with the Texas Rangers. He was 12-8 with a 3.80 ERA. He was also 17th in the league in WHIP.
Eovaldi’s lengthy MLB career has included stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, and Rangers. He is a two-time World Series winner. He won the “Fall Classic” with the Red Sox in 2018 and Texas Rangers in 2023. Eovaldi was 5-0 with a 2.95 ERA during the Rangers’ postseason run. The best regular season of Eovaldi’s career came in 2021 when he finished fourth in American League Cy Young voting. He has a career record of 91-89 with a 4.07 ERA. How will this deal work out for both sides?

After winning the 2023 World Series, the Rangers(78-84) failed to qualify for the MLB Playoffs. One of the team’s largest issues for this past season was their poor pitching staff. They were 24th in team ERA, 17th in opposing batting average, and 21st in WHIP. Eovaldi joins a starting rotation that includes Jon Gray and hopefully two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom. The oft-injured ace returned late in the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in 2023. He had a 1.69 ERA in his three starts. Hopefully, he can remain healthy over a full season for the first time since 2020.
Final Thoughts
Eovaldi looks to anchor a Texas Rangers pitching staff that was not at its best in 2024. Shortstop Corey Seager had a down 2024 season on the heels of winning the World Series MVP Award. The Rangers have an extremely talented roster and will aim for a return to the postseason in 2025.
