No. 1 Texas Longhorns’ QB Quinn Ewers Promising Injury Update

Quarterbacks Start, Bench, Cut Texas Longhorns Quarterback Quinn Ewers

The Texas Longhorns found themselves in an unenviable position when Quarterback Quinn Ewers went down against UTSA. Despite the Longhorns’ eventual victory thanks to the relief of Arch Manning, Texans were worried. Quinn Ewers is the starting QB; seeing him down this early in the season is concerning. The Texas Longhorns need every man on their way to the championships. Their strenuous SEC scuffles are looming on the horizon. However, new information supplied by College Gameday’s Peter Thamel of ESPN may kickstart hope yet.

According to Thamel, Ewers’ injury might not be as bad as first expected:
“I was told just yesterday that Quinn Ewers’ injured oblique has improved significantly this week,” he said. “We’ll get a sense early next week of whether he returns to practice and in a week from today when we’re in Tuscaloosa. I have a feeling we’ll be playing the ‘will he, won’t he’ game for the Mississippi State game.”

It sounds to us that Quinn Ewers is rapidly on the mend, which is heartening news. After the Texas Longhorns quarterback dropped to the turf in the UTSA game, all of Texas held their collective breaths. As Quinn Ewers left the field that night, there was serious cause for concern. When he returned, dressed out in street clothes, it didn’t look good for Texas. Luckily, Backup Quarterback Arch Manning came in and secured the victory for the Texas Longhorns.

Looking Ahead to the SEC

Arch Manning will lead the Texas Longhorns this Saturday in his first career start. While it’s sure to be a memorable performance, we don’t yet know the long-term impact. Texas is on the precipice of their major battles against their new SEC opponents. How long will Arch remain in the driver’s seat?

Week 5 will see the Texas Longhorns face the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Austin, Texas. The following week against the OU Sooners will be held in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. That will be a massively significant game no matter who gets the start for the Texas Longhorns. Ideally, the welcome information on Quinn Ewers being released today is a harbinger of what is to come.

Final Thoughts

Regardless of the positive outlook, Quinn Ewers is still officially in injured status. It is unknown at this time when he will return to practice. Fans are anxious to know what this could mean for the Red River Rivalry. Peter Thamel speculated on this, asserting the expectation that the starter will return for that game.

The Texas Longhorns still have an incredibly tough schedule this season. After tonight, the SEC battles begin. Whether they’ll begin without Starting Quarterback Quinn Ewers remains to be seen. The Texas Longhorns have an arduous road ahead, filled with teams like Georgia, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas. They will strive to maintain that No. 1 spot in the AP Rankings as long as possible.
