The Texas Longhorns did not have a game this week, but Coach Sark still saw action. A chopper with burnt orange SEC logos was seen flying across the Texas skies last week. During the break, Steve Sarkisian flew out to see several prospective players for the Texas program. Being a coach is about more than just the players on the field. For a football program as big as Texas, recruiting never quite stops. Sarkisian used this brief pause in the schedule to visit multiple Texas Longhorn football prospects.
Traveling Across Texas
Coach Sarkisian focused much of his efforts this week visiting several Houston-area prospects. Climbing into an onyx chopper, Coach Sark rode in style across the sweltering Houston-Galveston landscape. According to On3, he visited five-star commit Jonah Williams in Galveston and stayed for his game. After, Sarkisian headed over to Alief Hastings to visit Smith Orogbo. Orogbo has been ranked as the No. 3 Edge in the country. Sarkisian and his coaching staff met with these Texas Longhorns commits, but that’s not all.
Coach Sarkisian took the opportunity to visit players who have already committed to other schools. One such player was Devin Sanchez, a long-term Ohio State recruit. He also stopped by Hitchcock in Galveston County, to see Nebraska commit Malcom Simpson and Texas A&M commit Kelshaun Johnson Jr. These are key flip candidates for the Texas Longhorns, as Coach Sark’s visit indicates.
The Texas Longhorns program is making plays for deep team fortification. One could argue that the recent Houston-area focus leaves room for Coach Sarkisian to explore. There is another off week later this year. The DFW seems like the logical next area to set their recruitment sights on.
Where Texas Stands Currently
The Texas Longhorns have already managed to secure several recruits for 2025. Several five-star prospects have indicated a desire to play college football in the Texas program. However, some think that Texas has already secured the best quarterback pool for 2025. Five-star Dia Bell has already committed to the Texas Longhorns in the 2026 class. This will round out Texas’ quarterback situation for a few seasons.
In addition to Bell, the Texas Longhorns have also been exploring defensive options. Another 5-star recruit, Lance Jackson, paid a visit to an SEC rival this past weekend. While his brother Landon is a Razorbacks defensive end, Lance feels his place is with Texas. “I just know they will get me to my full potential,” he says of the Texas Longhorns. Freshmen are certainly considered a strength and not a weakness over in Texas.
Final Thoughts
The off week was time well spent for the Texas Longhorns. Coach Sark got in a few brief visits to important program prospects. Much of his focus stayed in the Houston-Galveston area this time around. Texas has several confirmed commitments from players moving forward. Their wild ride in 2024 is all coming together according to Coach Sarkisian. He’s fortifying the Texas Longhorns football program and every committed prospect is on the table.
