Early Sunday Morning, ten people were shot at an event venue near Sanford, Florida. None sustained life-threatening injuries, but the 16-year-old suspect is in custody and is being held at a juvenile detention center. One of the victims of the shooting was Houston Texans star wide receiver Nathaniel “Tank” Dell.
Cabana Live, the venue of the shooting, had been reserved for a private event. The shooting took place after a verbal altercation escalated and the shooter opened fire. Dell was an innocent bystander during the incident and was not involved in any altercations.

It has been a series of unfortunate events for Tank Dell dating back to his rookie season in 2023. Dell started off his first season in the NFL looking like a future superstar for the Houston Texans. In 10 games, he caught 47 passes for 709 yards and seven touchdowns. Then, in a somewhat freak occurrence, Dell was injured while blocking on a running play near the goalline against the Denver Broncos.
“We have been made aware that Tank Dell was a victim of a shooting in Sanford, Fla. last night. He sustained a minor wound but has been released from the hospital and is in good spirits. We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate but we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this incident.” – Statement from the Houston Texans
Dell suffered a fractured leg on the play and was forced to miss the remainder of his stellar rookie season. After being drafted out of the University of Houston with the 69th overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, Dell was part of a star-studded rookie class for the Houston Texans. Along with fellow rookie CJ Stroud, Tank Dell was in the process of getting the Texans back to the top of the AFC South division.

Even though the wound is minor, Tank Dell is expected to make a full recovery. The Houston Texans are also expecting their young star to fully recover from the fractured leg he sustained last season.
Tank was a third-team All-American during his final season at the University of Houston before being drafted by the Texans. Dell signed a rookie deal worth $5.689 million over four years, which included a signing bonus of just over $1.1 million.
This offseason, the Texans added superstar wide receiver Stefon Diggs via trade with the Buffalo Bills and running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals. Dell and Diggs, along with Nico Collins and Dalton Schulz will provide one of the best receiving corps in the NFL. CJ Stroud will be one of the favorites to win the NFL MVP award thanks to his outstanding supporting cast.
