Before his victory over Lamont Peterson, the 31-year-old Madrimov (10-1-1) fought predominantly in his native Russia before this fight, and he performed in Riga. The 29-year-old Uzbek fighter has proved that he can withstand the legendary Mayweather, and he thinks that he did a good job in that fight. He has fought in many tournaments and achieved many big titles. Although he was trying his best to take control of this fight, he failed to do so.
Fight Analysis and Key Moments
The bout started with both men playing it safe, each of them looking for an opening while at the same time measuring their rival. This strategy, however, was not appreciated by the fans at BMO Stadium. The displeasure of the fans could be seen as they jeered and whistled at the performance as it went on in the hot sunshine of mid-afternoon.
Crawford was on the receiving end of a clash between the two in the fifth round, and he was knocked to the canvas. The latter slipped off balance and fell, and Madrimov grabbed the opportunity. This made the Uzbek fighter break into fluent punches on the flight, which placed him on his back foot.
This change of momentum saw some of Madrimov’s best punches with his effective right hands in the eighth round. However, due to his effort to regain firm control with increasingly accurate punches himself, Madrimov kept the match close.
The ensuing action was equally furious as both fighters looked for a knockout. Madrimov, however, proved his ability, especially in the later rounds of the competition, as did Crawford. The spurt Crawford made in the last thirty seconds of the 11th round helped him regain his strength, which was fairly evident in the 12th round as he sought to make it twelve straight knockouts.
Although neither fighter was knocked out, Crawford was evidently ahead for most of the performance. To celebrate his win, he raised his gloved hands near the end of the fight in a sign of victory.
