Tennessee Titans Demote Promising 2022 First Round Pick

Tennessee Titans

The NFL OTAs are here and before the regular season, the Tennessee Titans are demoting 2022 first-round pick Treylon Burks. Tennessee will be putting in their young receiver to special teams after two disappointing seasons.

This could be a sign of the Titans potentially moving on from the first-round pick from the past regime. Tennessee is trying to develop the young receiver but it feels like he could be a bust. The past mistakes of the Titans have haunted them for the past two years and they could rectify their mistakes with this decision.

Tennessee demoting Burks could end well for him but could correct an awful mistake from the past regime.

The Tennessee Titans are making the hard choice of demoting first-round pick Treylon Burks due to underperforming in OTAs. This is coming from the new head coach Brian Callahan telling reporters demoting him to special teams as a gunner

The change could help Burks’ confidence in being a returner for the Titans’ special teams. NFL receivers have transitioned to become great punt returners so Burks could do well in the position. While the change could be intimidating, Treylon Burks could transition well.

The change for Burks is also happening due to his underperforming at the NFL level with the Titans since 2022. Treylon Burks has been a disappointing receiver for the Titans with one touchdown in his career. This has been due to injuries in Treylon Burks’ career but also a lack of doing well in the season.

It could also be the organization not trusting the young receiver since drafting him. The Titans had drafted the young receiver to replace AJ Brown after trading him. Tennessee needed to replace AJ Brown and drafted Treylon Burks who has similarities to the former. The lackluster results of Burks could be a potential bust.

While calling Burks a bust is a reach, his numbers have been weak for the past two years. The Tennessee Titans have made draft busts in the past few years and could see him go. Even if he develops, the Titans want more of Brian and he has underachieved.

Final Thoughts

The Tennessee Titans demoting Bruks could end well for him but could correct an awful mistake from the past regime.

Tennessee’s young receiver has not worked out with the team well due to not being a vocal point of the offense. Besides not getting the reps, Burks has become a liability to the team since getting drafted.

Treylon Burks being a first-round pick also adds to the disappointment of the Tennessee Titans and the circumstances behind it. Tennessee drafting Burks was a desperate move to replace one of their better receivers and it didn’t work.

While Treylon Burks could still become a good receiver, the Titans were the wrong team to draft him and it shows in the past two years. Tennessee correcting a mistake shows they are moving on from the past regime of mistakes.
