The Tennessee Titans are on the clock. Last week, the New York Giants were in pole position to land the number one overall pick but then beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-33. This week, the New England Patriots were in line for the pick but beat the Buffalo Bills to fall to the fourth pick. This left the Titans to be awarded the top pick in April’s draft. There are many positions the team needs to improve, but none are more glaring than the quarterback. Will Levis struggled mightily this season after showing some promise last year. One rumor indicates the Titans love one of the quarterbacks in the draft, Miami QB Cam Ward.
Tennessee Titans Looking At Cam Ward?
Benjamin Allbright is a Denver Broncos insider but also covers the entire NFL. He posted on X shortly after the number one overall pick was clinched, “Titans are rumored to love Cam Ward. Not all teams do.” Ward did have a stellar season for the Hurricanes. He threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns, but he isn’t just dangerous through the air. He added another 204 yards and four scores on the ground. In the past two drafts, the Tennessee Titans have taken an offensive lineman in the first round. Now, they get an opportunity to get the most important position in football figured out.
The Titans have some decent weapons on offense. Tony Pollard had a bounce-back season, and Calvin Ridley has shown that he can be a dangerous receiver on the outside. Part of the issue with the offense was backbreaking mistakes at the quarterback position. All the way back in week 1, the Titans were playing well, but a boneheaded pick-six by Levis catapulted the Bears to victory. If the quarterback play was better, the team might not be picking first overall.
Should They Take A QB?
Allbright mentions that not all teams love Cam Ward. Many reports have indicated teams are down on the quarterback class overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ward and Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders are the top prospects, but not all teams have a first-round grade on them. There is an alternative option for the Titans. If they really do not like a quarterback in the class, they could either take Heisman winner Travis Hunter or trade the pick to build up their draft capital.
While there are no franchise-changing free agents at the quarterback position, the Tennessee Titans could find a serviceable veteran for one year. Next year’s class is slated to be loaded, so waiting a year might not be the worst idea. Ultimately, I believe they should take a quarterback. We’ve seen players that everyone doubts become Hall of Fame players. If the Titans like Cam Ward, they should take him and develop him. Sometimes, taking what is right in front of you is the best option. Teams often outthink themselves when the simplest answer is the best one.
Final Thoughts
NFL Draft season is in full swing for many teams. With so many teams rising and falling in the past two weeks, trying to get a grip on what teams are thinking right now has been tough. The offseason always has plenty of excitement, and this year is no different.
