The Tennessee Volunteers are losing a big piece of their 2023 recruiting class in Chandavian Bradley. The defensive end is leaving the football program to enroll at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas. Bradley had a tough road to playing time with All-American James Pearce Jr and others in front of him.
Bradley redshirted his freshman year, but was expected to eventually develop into a key part of the Tennessee defensive line. Now, the 6’5” 221 pound edge rusher will look to jump start his career at Hutchinson.
Chandavian Bradley Leaving Tennessee Before 2024 Season
A consensus four star recruit out of Platte City, Missouri, Chandavian Bradley was the 142nd overall ranked player in the class of 2023 according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was ranked the 17th edge rusher in the country and the fifth ranked player in Missouri.
Out of high school, Bradley held over 30 FBS offers. He chose Tennessee over Texas A&M and South Carolina. However, Colorado tried hard to flip his commitment late in the cycle.
Bradley announced the move on X after Parker Thune initially reported the news.
“Extreme thank you to the entire Vol football staff for everything you guys have done for me,” Bradley wrote in response to the report.
From Tennessee to Hutchinson Community College
Hutchinson Community College is one of the top junior colleges in the country and has ties to Tennessee. Both Alvin Kamara and Cordarrelle Patterson came from Hutchinson before landing with the Vols.
For Chandavian Bradley, Hutchinson is a few hours away from his hometown of Platte City, Missouri. He will now become a high profile JUCO recruit for the 2025 class, as he tries to resurrect his college career.
What This Means for the Tennessee Volunteers in 2024
The Vols have plenty of depth along the defensive line. However, James Pearce Jr is going into what is likely his final season in Knoxville. Behind him is a group of talented, but highly inexperienced set of edge rushers. Chandavian Bradley was expected to develop and eventually compete for reps.
With the departure of Bradley, Tennessee will have Joshua Josephs, Caleb Herring, and incoming five star freshman Jordan Ross waiting in the wings behind Pearce. The defensive line as a whole is considered the strength of the 2024 Tennessee Volunteers and is one of the best lines in the country.
