Ten Hag Makes ‘He has to Bounce Back’ Stance on Antony

Erik ten Hag Manchester United

Ten Hag spoke about his players, ahead of their Carabao Cup game against Barnsley, and in retrospect to their crucial 3nil victory over Southampton. Prior to the International break, the Red Devils suffered two consecutive defeats against Brighton and Liverpool. It was a disappointing one for Erik Ten Hag, who knew any more mistakes could put his job on the line. However after the break, United was able to bounce with a needed three-nil win.

At first, during the game, Manchester United looked very sloppy, Southampton had the opportunity to take the lead due to a Penalty, however, the host missed. The return gave United the motivation to pull off something. Eventually, they put three past the Saints.

Throughout the game, Ten Hag didn’t use Antony, and so far the coach had some things to say about him.

The Dutchman spoke about Antony. He said the Brazilian has been impatient, showing signs of desperation to play on the pitch. However, Ten Hag expresses that he wants him to prove himself. He said: “He’s impatient, He wants to play. But in top football there are laws. You pick the team that has the most chance to win the game, the one with the best dynamic, and the best chemistry. Players have to fight for their positions.”

Rashford, Garnacho, and Amad have all gotten a goal this season. This in return has placed the Brazilian under some sort of pressure. Before the window closed, he was linked to Turkish Club Fenerbache, but it didn’t work out.

The Dutchman also continued on Antony saying the Brazilian needs to put in more effort and earn the starting shirt. He was also specific that he’ll judge from the training who will start ahead in the Barnsley fixture.

Ten Hag said: “The other players are doing so well – they’re contributing, He has to get over them. He has to earn the right in training. You will see what the line-up will be. We have everyday training and the players have to earn the right to play. When players do the right thing in training, when the attitude is good, when they show performance in training, they will earn the right to play.”

What’s Ahead for Man United

Manchester United will host Barnsley in their League Cup tie. It is expected to be an easy fixture for the Red Devils, however, Ten Hag will not want to take any chances and underrate their Opponents. After their game against Barnsley on Tuesday, they’ll travel to London to Play Crystal Palace for the 5th Game week. Ten Hag will hope to try to continue their winning run, in the hunt for a good finish at the league table.
