Ex-Premier League players, specifically Manchester United ex-legends, have called for Erik Ten Hag to resign from his post immediately – or, at least sacked after the dismal season finally comes to an end. The United manager has fallen out of favor with not only his players in recent weeks, but with fans, pundits, commentators, and almost everyone in the footballing world.
Ex-Man United legendary players are horrified to see just how much the club has fallen in the past few years, let alone the last few weeks. Not only does the club need an entire overhaul in terms of personnel, playing style, contracts, and attitude, but bringing in a new manager for the 2024-2025 season is the most basic starting point for the team to rebuild.

Erik Ten Hag’s time at United might be coming to an end quite quickly. United recently lost to a struggling Crystal Palace in one of their last matches of the 2023-2024 Premier League year. Of course, Crystal Palace can hand some upsets to top-tier teams, like when they beat Liverpool who was previously in title contention, but United losing 4-0 is a terrible result for the Red Devils.
Michael Owen and Paul Scholes, two legends of the game who are well-known for their incredible stats, trophies, and impact on the footballing world, called for Ten Hag to be let go after the season comes to a close. Scholes and Owen even go so far as to say that ten Hag should be fired immediately and replaced by Steve McClaren, his assistant manager before the season even ends.
Manchester United have just two more matches left on the schedule this year – a welcome fact for die-hard fans who have seen their club crumble before their very eyes. Erik Ten Hag has led the team astray this year, earning poor results and failing to capitalize on huge chances. United have (probably) missed out on European football this year since they haven’t made it into the top five spots in the Prem.
Plus, Erik Ten Hag has shown a consistent lack of leadership throughout this time as coach. He hasn’t facilitated any communication between the squad and staff, solved issues with the club at large, reassured fans of plans, or motivated dejected players who are not getting enough playing time to remain patient.
Although United could potentially qualify for the Europa League or Europa League Conference, that would come with a ton of luck – which United haven’t had this year. Erik Ten Hag needs his team to win out the remaining games and also hopes the other games happen to fall his way.

Erik Ten Hag’s Remaining Schedule with United
Erik Ten Hag might be fired at the end of the season, but he still wants to capitalize on the last three matches of the team’s Premier League run this year and earn a much-needed nine points – even if it is just for pride’s sake.
United unfortunately sit in the middle of the table in eighth place, one of the lowest they have had in the last couple of years in the top tier of English football. Usually, United sits toward the top of the league, fighting for contention in Europa and Champions League.
For the 2023-2024 season, United will hope to win their remaining games against Arsenal who sit in first, Newcastle United, and Brighton. With the way the cards have fallen this year, it seems as though picking up two out of three wins could even be a tall ask for the Red Devils.
