Team India Breaks Pakistan’s World Record

Team India set a new global record by winning the fifth T20I, their 51st game away from home in the shortest format. The Men in Blue surpassed Pakistan’s global record in T20 cricket by winning 50 international matches outside of Pakistan.

After a startling 13-run loss in the first game, Shubman Gill’s side recovered to win the series 4-1. The World Champions won the second and third games of the series by 100 and 23 runs, respectively. Before a stunning 10-wicket triumph in the fourth T20I.

Team India Creates Unbreakable World Record

India struggled early in the fifth and final game of the series. Especially with openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. As well as number three batter Abhishek Sharma, who departed early.

However, Sanju Samson’s gritty half-century helped India get 168 points, thanks to a vital cameo from Shivam Dube. Zimbabwe attempted to rally back, but Mukesh Kumar’s four-wicket haul sealed the victory.

The victory was India’s 50th in the shortest format of the game at the opposition’s home ground. Team India has now equaled Pakistan’s tally of most wins in T20Is at the home of the opposition.

In the past, Pakistan was the first team to win 50 T20Is at the home of the opposition. And now India has reached the same milestone and has done it in fewer games. Team India has registered 50 T20I wins at the home of the opposition in 81 games. Meanwhile, Pakistan has played 95 games at home against the opposition and has managed 50 wins.

Australia, as champions of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021, is third on the list. They have won 39 of 79 matches. New Zealand is behind its Trans-Tasman competitors by 37 victories in 74 games. England is sixth on the ladder, having won 35 of 76 matches.

Team India’s victory in the fourth T20I saw Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill achieve their second 150-plus partnership in run chases. Team India brought the two batters closer to breaking their record. Jaiswal and Gill scored 165 runs for India against the West Indies at Lauderhill, Florida in August 2023.

It’s still Team India’s highest partnership in T20I run chases for any wicket. Team India would now look to finish the series on a high with a win in the fifth match on Sunday (July 14).

Most Wins Away From Home In T20Is

India also holds the record for the most T20 cricket wins, with 152. Earlier in the series, the Men in Blue established a milestone by becoming the first team to win 150 games.

Pakistan is second on the list, having won 142 T20Is. With 111 victories, New Zealand sits in third position behind Pakistan. Australia and South Africa have won 105 and 104 games, respectively, while England has won 100 games.

In the final match of the series IND vs.ZIM, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India an incredible start in the opening over. He hit a six off Raza. To make matters worse, the spinner overstepped. It allowed Team India a free hit on the first ball of the encounter.

Jaiswal made no mistakes, hitting another six as India scored 13 runs off just one legal delivery. For the record, Jaiswal became the first player in history to score 12 runs off the first legal delivery in a men’s game in the short format.
