Team England is looking likely to be one of the ones to beat this summer for the Euro 2024 competition in July. Although Southgate had to make a few tough decisions in the last tweak to cut some big names from the list, like superstar Jack Grealish and midfielder James Maddison from Tottenham, he was left with a foolproof squad list that shows England’s massive talent pool.
Let’s see who we can expect to shine for the defenders, midfielders, attackers, and shot-stoppers this summer.
Team England Defenders
The defenders are made up of Joe Gomez, one of the young defenders from Liverpool FC who is a stalwart in the back line for the Reds. Although he is younger than many think, he plays with a type of maturity and calmness that you only find in veterans.
The back line also features Luke Shaw, one of United’s best and fastest players down the left-hand side. Despite having an injury-laden season for the Red Devils, he is still one of the best fullbacks in the game.
Another One to keep an eye on for defenders is Kyle Walker, arguably the fastest man in the Premier League who consistently shows his class, leadership, and power in tough games for Manchester City.
Team England Midfielders
The midfield lot is where the England team shines. The depth in the middle section of the team makes it super hard to choose a starting three for the lineup week in and week out.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, the make-shift left fullback for Liverpool FC, actually plays best as a midfielder – which is amazing, considering he is widely regarded as the best-left defender in the world. His vision of passing, speed, and technical ability is unmatched.
Jude Bellingham, although he is extremely young, is talented, mature, calm, and composed on the ball. He recently won the Champions League with Real Madrid, also winning the La Liga Player of the Year award in the Spanish domestic league.
Declan Rice is a person at Arsenal who plays week in and week out, dictating the tempo of the game, putting in tackles, and running the engine in the middle of the park.
Team England Forwards
The strikers and wingers for Team England are what will cause other teams tons of trouble – the pace, speed, shooting ability, and crossing in the front line is simply unmatched by any other team in the world.
Eze from Crystal Palace had a breakout season where people took notice of his skill, tenacity, and flair on the ball. Phil Foden won the Premier League Player of the Year award due to scoring key goals in tough moments, getting more minutes for City this year, and putting together amazing one-touch combinations and crosses into the box that is extremely hard to defend against.
Other strikers, like Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, are clinical finishers who will score almost any single ball that is put in the box. Team England is looking like a real attacking threat for the Euros.
Team England Goalkeepers
The goalkeepers include Jordan Pickford, the Everton man between the posts who is often regarded as England’s #1, Dean Henderson from Crystal Palace, and Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal. Any one of these shot-stoppers is a smart move from the England gaffer, Southgate, during an intense game.
