It will be the last game for these two teams: Team China vs. San Antonio Spurs at Golden Center 1 in the California Classics league. Both teams struggled throughout the Summer League against the Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings.
San Antonio’s second Summer League game didn’t feature key players like Sidy Cissoko and first-round pick Stephon Castle in the starting line-up. Thus, it opened the slot for other players to display their skills on the court. Though the Spurs lost against the Sacramento Kings 1 (59-85), the new faces on the court showed some promising performance that could give them an edge over Team China.
Team China hasn’t been up there in terms of performance this summer league. They lost their first two matches with huge margins. Team China’s last match against the Charlotte Hornets ended with a 31-point loss margin in favor of the Hornets (93-62). However, there have been sights of development from their first game against the Sacramento Kings 1.
Can both teams put up a show in their final Summer League game?

Team China
All eyes have been on Yang Hansen, who plays center for the team. The seven-footer’s first game was nothing to write home about. However, it seemed Hansen started to get the feel of playing with more experienced teams as his performance slightly improved. The seven-foot center scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds with two blocks. Hansen still has a long way to go in terms of performance improvement to become an NBA draft prospect.
Still trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel for Team China, the player who seconds Yang Hansen on the team is Cheng Shuaipeng. Shuaipeng came off the bench to score eight points in 17 minutes of display. Shuaipeng plays guard for the team, and in his debut, he could outperform his teammates on the court who struggled to stand on their feet.
San Antonio Spurs
Since the Spurs missed their first-round pick, Stephon Castle, against the Kings 1, Harrison Ingram, the second-round pick, displayed some great skill on the court. As a forward, Ingram got 11 points, four rebounds, and dished two assists, making 5-13 field goal attempts. Despite being a second-round pick, Ingram might surpass Stephon Castle to be on the Spurs rotation roster. Also, if given another chance in this final Summer League game, Ingram could unleash his full potential as an offensive player against China.
Tyson Ward was the Spurs’ top performer against the Charlotte Hornets. He tied with Harrison Ingram in points made (11) and grabbed five rebounds. After being undrafted in 2020, he went to Europe, where he currently plays forward for Paris Basketball. Before the Summer Leagues exhibit, he averaged 10.4 points and 4.0 rebounds, 47% of his field shot attempts. During this Summer League, Ward exhibited decent offensive skills as a guard to elevate the team’s performance. However, it wasn’t enough to put his team in the lead. Also, though his stats were average, the 6’ 6 player is capable of dominating Team China.
Possible Breakout Players of the Game
Team China
We still expect an improved performance from Yang Hansen and Cheng Shuaipeng in this final California Classic game. However, Liao Sanning could break out against the San Antonio Spurs. Sanning scored seven points while dishing four assists in 19 minutes of display against the Hornets. Coupled with Hansen and Shuaipeng, Sanning should have a promising performance against the Spurs
San Antonio Spurs
Jamaree Bouyea is worth watching in this Spurs’ final summer league game. Against the Sacramento Kings 1 team, he got 10 points, six rebounds, and dished out four assists. Bouyea displayed a promising performance on both ends of the court against the Kings, as he got five defensive rebounds for his team. Also, the 25-year-old point guard impacted the team’s low three-point percentage (16.2%). Thus, if Bouyea improves his play-making skills, he could be great against Team China.
