2024-25 TCU Women’s Basketball Earns Its First Elite Eight Appearance in Program History

TCU, Hailey Van Lith

The TCU Horned Frogs Women’s Basketball team earns its first appearance in the Elite Eight with a huge 71-62 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sweet 16 early Saturday afternoon in Birmingham, Alabama. The Horned Frogs have been one of the most surprising teams in 2024-25 overall because of the resurgence of star guard Hailey Van Lith. Van Lith, with the win today, is heading to her fifth straight Elite Eight in her historic career. TCU needed every play that Van Lith had today, as the Big 12 player of the year had 26 points, nine rebounds, and four assists for TCU today.

TCU Continues to Thrive as the Underdogs

TCU has been the underdogs all season long as they were one of the worst teams in the Big 12 last season, but with the addition of Van Lith, they have turned it into a Big 12 Regular Season and Tournament Championship, as well as an Elite Eight Appearance after being 7.5 point underdogs against the Fighting Irish.

The Irish were a popular pick for a three-seed to get to the Elite Eight in many brackets because many people felt like they were under-seeded. But the Horned Frogs keep on surprising people with their style of play and the bounce-back season from Van Lith in this system by head coach Mark Campbell

TCU is going to be a dangerous matchup for the Longhorns in their Elite Eight matchup because of their mentality of being the underdogs and having a free and loose style of play. The early line for this matchup is also against the Horned Frogs, as Texas is favored by 7.5 points according to ESPN BET. Shout out to this TCU team for being one of the most impressive teams in Women’s College Basketball this year, despite not getting many headlines like UCONN, South Carolina, Texas, UCLA, and USC have all season long.
