Taysom Hill Suffers Season-Ending Knee Injury

Taysom Hill

New Orleans Saints Tight End Taysom Hill was injured late in yesterday’s 21-14 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The injury was feared to be a serious one for the versatile player, and a recent report by ESPN Insider Adam Schefter confirmed that Hill suffered a season-ending Torn ACL and possibly further damage to his knee.

Hill was having a characteristically strong season for the New Orleans Saints as he played quarterback, running back, and tight end during the 2024 season. He had 21 yards through the air, 278 rushing yards, and 187 receiving yards this season. It has been an injury-plagued season for the talented player as he missed nearly a month earlier in the season with a litany of injuries. How will the New Orleans Saints fare without the Swiss Army Knife that is Taysom Hill?

Taysom Hill Will Leave a Hole In the New Orleans Offense

Hill is arguably the most versatile player in the National Football League today. He was the Saints‘ leading receiver in yesterday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams,  but the team has struggled this season. New Orleans has fallen on tough times since being the league’s best offense over the first two weeks of the regular season.

New Orleans then lost seven consecutive games and fired Head Coach Dennis Allen on November 4. The team has responded well under Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi and has gone 2-1 in his tenure. Hill has 11 career passing touchdowns, 33 career rushing touchdowns, and 11 career receiving touchdowns. The Saints will sorely miss his versatility over the final five weeks of the regular season.

Final Thoughts

Hill’s injury diagnosis was the latest in a long line of reasons why 2024 will not be a season the Saints(4-8) want to remember. The rough season will presumably lead to a new head coach and the team possibly parting ways with first-year Quarterback Derek Carr. New Orleans has a 1% chance of making the 2024 NFL Playoffs as well. Fortunately, they get to go on the road and face a New York Giants team in turmoil on Sunday.

Hill returning to his previous form following such a devestating injury is no guarantee. He will be 35 by the start of next season, and a versatile player like Hill, needs his lower body to be in great shape to be at his best. He has one year remaining on the four-year $140 million contract the veteran signed in 2022.
