Native Canadian, Tanner Pearson has officially become a Las Vegas Golden Knight. Tanner Pearson made his way to Las Vegas during training camp under a PTO (professional tryout). After thoroughly impressing the franchise’s leaders, Pearson has been locked down by the Golden Knights. Announced on October 4, 2024, Tanner Pearson has signed a one-year contract worth $775,000 with the Vegas hockey club.
Tanner Pearson’s Early Career
The 32-year-old played for the Barrie Colts on the OHL for two seasons. He was one of the biggest goal-scorers in the league. During the 2011-2012 season, Tanner Pearson had 91 points with the contribution of 37 goals. His journey into the NHL was hard-earned. After being passed over twice in the NHL Draft, his name was finally called by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2012 NHL Draft. Pearson was named during the first round at number 30, at the age of 19. Only one of three players in NHL history, Tanner Pearson made his professional debut during the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2013.
During the 2013-2014 AHL and NHL seasons, Pearson split his time between the two leagues. Following February 2014, Pearson played regularly for the Kings. He played in all but two of the 26 games during the postseason for the L.A. Kings. After a few seasons, Tanner Pearson was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Carl Hagelin on November 14, 2018. The following year he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks where he stayed for roughly five years. Ending his time with Vancouver, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on September 19, 2023.
Tryout With the Golden Knights
The left winger made his way to Las Vegas, Nevada for a professional tryout after the Golden Knights lost many forwards during the offseason. During training camp and the 2024 NHL Preseason, Tanner Pearson blended perfectly with the Golden Knights roster. During the preseason games, Pearson constantly created scoring opportunities for the Golden Knights. He handled the puck well under pressure and sent pucks deep into the offensive zone. Pearson is a goal-scoring threat on the offensive line, and if he isn’t scoring, he is providing opportunities for others.
During the preseason games, Tanner Pearson was among the most notable players. During the first game, he was one of the more aggressive frontmen in the rush and scored an empty net goal for the Golden Knights. During game three against the Utah Hockey Club, Pearson continued to partake in the offensive rushes gaining another point for an assist on Keegan Kolesar’s goal. Overall, game four was an impressive game by the Golden Knights, besides the multiple penalties. During this matchup, Tanner Pearson continued to make his presence known, by scoring a beautiful power play goal against the Colorado Avalanche.
What This Means For Both Parties
Tanner Pearson needs an updraft in his career. After injuries and other issues, he needs to find his “home” team for the next few seasons. The Las Vegas Golden Knights need a replacement for William Carrier’s scoring creation and physical presence on the rush. Both parties need one another, and we can hope to see Tanner Pearson excel once again in the professional ice hockey domain. With his performance thus far in mind, an exceptional season for Tanner Pearson is well in store under the banner of a Las Vegas Golden Knight.
