Tampa Bay Buccaneers Young 53 Man Impressive Roster Ready For Battle

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made their final roster cuts from 91 to 53 on Tuesday. The team’s coaching staff had plenty of surprises during training camp and preseason games, and they went 2-1. The Bucs had a solid draft this year, and luck would have it that the players they picked up during the offseason have panned out so far. Does the future look bright for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a unique situation with their new 53-man roster. According to Scott Smith on the team’s website, 40 of the 53-man roster is under 26. The roster only has three players over the age of 30: receiver Mike Evans(31), linebacker Lavonte David (34), and defensive lineman Will Gholston(33). Over the last three years, the Bucs have stacked up on rookies and undrafted players, slowing in development inside their practice squad. So, what players have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers put into their roster that could make an impact?

There are a few things different about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season. One of them is the Bucs, who decided to go big on the defensive side of the ball. When I mean big, I don’t mean in size; it’s in personnel. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have 27 defensive players, with six spots going three deep with players. Todd Bowles, head coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, runs a 3-4 defense. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will load up with six defensive linemen: Vita Vea, Calijah Kancey, Will Gholston, Logan Hall, Greg Gaines, and  Earnst Brown.

After an impressive training camp and preseason, Jose Ramirez and Chris Braswell make up the main roster. Yaya Diaby, Markees Watts, Anthony Nelson, and  Joe Tryon-Shoyinka all return from last season. So, that’s six at outside linebacker. Another position where the Bucs have six players is the safety spot. Jordan Whitehead and Antonie Winfield Jr will hold down the starting spots. Keavon Merriweather is questionable initially, but the Bucs have been cross-training players to play the safety and slot position.

Tykee Smith, Christian Izien, and Tavierre Thomas are the players with this ability. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have five defense backs, with Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum at starting corners. Tyrek Funderburk, Bryce Hall, and Josh Hayes will provide backup. Lavonte David, K.J. Britt, J.J. Russell, and SirVocea Dennis are in the inside linebacker position.

New Offense

The Bucs will be running a new scheme this season under offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who intends to revamp the Bucs run game with more motion before snaps. Bucs first-round pick Graham Barton will start at the center of the offensive line positions. The starters are Luke Goedeke, Cody Mauch, Ben Bredeson, and Tristian Wirfs. Robert Hainsey, Elijah Klein, Justin Skule, and Royce Newman will provide backup. Running the ball for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season will be Rachaad White as primary, Bucky Irving another draft pick of the Bucs this season will be helping with the loins share of carries, and Sean Tucker who had a good preseason.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will only have two quarterbacks: Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask. We already know Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are the starters at the wide receiver position. After some great skill displays during training camp and preseason, Jalen McMillian and Kameron Johnson will make the roster. Trey Palmer is a return from last season; he will also assist on special teams.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have four tight ends on their roster in a new scheme that heavily relies on tight ends. Cade Otton, a three-year Bucs player, will start at tight end. Payne Durham had an impressive training camp and preseason, even after suffering an injury. Ko Kieft and Devin Culp will provide their support.

Conclusion

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have nine rookies on their roster. Two of the nine were undrafted, meaning they busted their, well, you know, to make the main roster. The Bucs have many players who developed through the practice squad to make it to the roster. So my question is, after all that hard work to get there, do you think these players will not make memorable moments for the organization? Ponder that and get back to me. The Bucs open their season against the Washington Commanders.
