The co-main event featured a UFC Vegas 96 women’s strawweight fight between the ninth-ranked Angela Hill and the eleventh-ranked Tabatha Ricci. Hill came into the fight with two straight victories and success in four of her last five fights. She fought against Luana Pinheiro and that was her previous fight which was in May. That was the one where she knocked down Luana Pinheiro to get a second-round submission, which earned her ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus. That opened the gates for her to enter the Co-main event of the UFC Vegas 96.
Performance of Tabatha Ricci
Ricci came into this fight in the spotlight after a very contentious split-decision victory over Tecia Pennington. In the previous bouts before the fight held on Saturday, she had succeeded in five out of six fights. Ricci started the other round vigorously and at the beginning of the round, she went forward and landed a right hand as did Hill.
The CQC-trained Ricci was repeatedly moving forward trying to lock down the over-eager Hill in a choke once more. To enhance power in turn, they struggled for position against the cage before breaking apart. Ricci then threw a right hand at Hill then clinched again. During the first round of the fight, Ricci stayed intense and continued to attack Hill in different ways.
Ricci stepped inside and started to throw punches. They both exchanged knee kicks to the body and clinched before backing away from each other. In another clinch, Hill attempted to sweep Tabatha Ricci off her feet and this time, Ricci did not go down. They left each other just before the round was over.
Tabatha Ricci Dominating the Second Round
Tabatha Ricci continued to push the pace on Hill in the second round. She landed a right hand, lifted Hill, and put her on the ground. These fight scenes were good, and the way Hill tried some kicks from the ground before getting back up was great as well. They then wrestled for a very long moment before letting go. Tabatha Ricci changed her mind and attacked Hill with a combination. Once more she closed on her and clinched herself to the opponent.
As they separated, Hill scored with several kicks to the body and a good right to the chin. Ricci came back with another combination and then took Hill down. Finally in the last few moments of the fight, after being choked by the ropes, Hill kicked Ricci off and stood up. The amazing fight came to an end and both fighters were separated and that’s how Tabatha Ricci, came out victorious of the Octagon.
