With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to begin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on October 3, 2024, the cricket world is a flurry of excitement. The competition has been moved because of political instability in the area; Bangladesh was originally scheduled to host it. The event, which will feature ten teams vying for the coveted title over 23 matches, culminating in the final on October 20, is expected to feature some of the top women’s cricket players.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced an all-female match officials panel for this year’s event, which is a ground-breaking move. This ruling proves the ICC’s dedication to advancing gender parity in athletics. The panel includes seasoned officials like three-time World Cup officiator Claire Polosak, who will officiate her fifth World Cup. As well as Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams. They have officiated high-stakes games in the past, including the most recent final between Australia and South Africa.
ICC’s Official Statement
The all-female Officiating Panel also includes the Zimbabwean debutante Sarah Dambanevana and returning TV umpire Sue Redfern, who is back for her fourth event. Shandre Fritz, Michell Pereira, and GS Lakshmi—who has officiated T20 World Cup internationals since 2012—are the match officials. This varied group contributes a lot of experience to the competition in addition to reflecting a notable shift towards inclusivity. In an official statement, the Senior Manager of ICC expressed satisfaction with the all-female team.
He underlined that these officials have been chosen based on their recent performances and are among the best in the world. “This group, selected as the most deserving umpires for this event following their recent form in bilateral and other cricket, are some of the very best from around the world. We are confident that they will do a great job at this event. I wish them the best of luck as they oversee the world’s top women’s cricketers in what will be an exciting tournament for all involved,” the ICC Manager added.
