Suryakumar Yadav Reflects on His Amazing Journey with Gambhir

Suryakumar Yadav

Ever since the appointment of Suryakumar Yadav in the limited-overs squad just recently, the cricketer has disclosed a secret bonding with Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, culminating in his appointment as Team India’s T20I captain. It has come at a time that Suryakumar Yadav has emerged to be among the best players in international cricket owing to his recent performances. However, he has a significant link with KKR in the past back in 2014 to 2014, which is the IPL team.

Gambhir, who coached Yadav in the earlier days of his cricketing career, and Suryakumar were serving KKR before joining the Mumbai Indians in the 2014 IPL. While in Mumbai at that time, Yadav was more or less a bench warmer, but Gambhir was confident in him, and that served as a turnaround season where Yadav featured in all 16 matches for the champions. The skills of such a finishing and explosive batting were not easy to forget, and thus, Gambhir even assured Yadav to bat higher in the future.

A Relationship Revisited

Suryakumar Yadav had a year stint with Gambhir at KKR, but it was at MI that he blossomed, especially after he was elevated to No. 3. Former KKR captain Gambhir, whose team recently became champions in IPL 2024, regrets that he failed to bring back Suryakumar Yadav and ensure that he was given a bigger place in the KKR team squad.

Let’s fast-forward to the year 2024, and the circle has reversed. Gambhir has started a fresh chapter at the helm of affairs as the Indian head coach, and Suryakumar Yadav has gotten a promotion to the T20I skipper’s post. Before him, there was Rohit Sharma, the winning captain of the T20 World Cup. It also highlights that their changes in roles signify a strong and lasting bond.

A Special Bond  Between Suryakumar Yadav And Gambhir

More recently, in this series of comments, SKY reiterated the great and special bond he shares with Gambhir. Looking at the history of the two, this particular relationship is unique as, in 2014, Suryakumar was the player who played under the leadership of Gautam on the KKR side. It was special because that was where he got opportunities and the relationship is still strong.

Gambhir came to know how professional Suryakumar Yadav was, and he was also quite aware of Suryakumar’s state of mind. Gautam Gambhir clearly understands Surykumar Yadav’s flow of play.

A Philosophy of Humility

Speaking of aggressive and innovative batter Suryakumar Suryakumar Yadav, he is also the man to lead the side but keeps things humble. He understands cricket as not the be-all and end-all in his life but a sport instead.

The most important thing I’ve learned from this sport is to remain humble, regardless of whether you are performing well or not. When you do something on the field, you have to leave it on the field.

Yadav’s philosophy is rooted in balance and humility.

This is not your life; it’s just a part of it. You can’t stay at the top when you’re doing well and be underground when you’re not. That’s something you shouldn’t do as a sportsman. Staying grounded helps create balance in your life. If you are a good person, everything will fall into place.

Keeping in mind it is never easy to lead at the national level, there will be lots of ups and lots of downs to tackle. Sometimes, when the team does not perform well, the captain has to absorb the pressure to control the criticism from the fans and followers. Surykumar is a young and talented player; he is known for his best performance. Suryakumar Yadav is expected to perform as a captain
