Suryakumar Yadav Misses Duleep Trophy Opener Due to Injury

Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of Team India T20I, will miss the opening round of the Duleep Trophy in 2024–2025 after getting hurt during Mumbai’s preseason match at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore final week. Due to a hand injury acquired on the third day of fielding against TNCA XI last week, Suryakumar was not allowed to bat in the second innings of the match. 

After receiving advice to rest, the right-hand hitter is now recovering from his ailment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). With a good average of 43.62 and 14 hundreds to his credit. He has smashed 5,628 runs in 82 first-class matches. The 33-year-old had earlier stated that the longest format has always been his first aim in an attempt to break into the Test squad.

Suryakumar Faces Severe Injury

Suryakumar Yadav sustained an injury during Mumbai’s preseason games at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore. It will prevent him from competing in the first round of the Duleep Trophy in 2024–25. In a match last week versus TNCA XI, he suffered an injury. He suffered a hand injury while fielding on the third day, therefore he did not bat in the second innings. He has been told to rest while recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). 

Suryakumar amassed 5,628 runs at an average of 43.62 and 14 hundreds in his 82 first-class appearances. Red-ball cricket, according to the 33-year-old Indian T20 captain, is his top priority. He also talked about how he began playing red-ball cricket in those locations and about the local cricket he played in Mumbai. He declared that long-format cricket was his favorite sport. He talked about his lengthy history of participating in first-class matches for almost a decade and how much he still enjoys doing so.

Yadav informed NCA of his inability to pick up the trophy just before he was set to play for India C against India D in the opening round at Ananthapur on September 5–8. In a similar vein, Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium will host matches for India A and B. According to the Press Trust of India, Suryakumar suffered a hand injury. While fielding for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu in the just-finished Buchi Babu Tournament. 

As a result, he is probably going to miss the opening round of the prestigious red-ball competition. Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead Team C, which includes Suryakumar. Due to illness, Team C has already lost the services of its speedy Umran Malik, and Suryakumar’s absence would further hamper their chances. The fact that Yadav was unable to compete in the Duleep Trophy would undoubtedly break his heart because he was hoping to return to the Indian Test team. 

In a recent interview, Suryakumar expressed his wish to participate in all three formats. India A and India B will meet off at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This competition will provide an opportunity for Indian players to be picked for the two-Test series against Bangladesh at home, which begins on September 19 in Chennai.
