NASCAR sensation Shane Van Gisbergen (SVG) and Trackhouse Racing set the world on fire with the announcement that the three-time supercars champion will be racing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series in the number 88 for Trackhouse racing. SVG came onto the NASCAR scene with a bang last year winning the street race in Chicago in his first start in NASCAR. A feat not seen since Johnny Rutherford driving NASCAR legend Smokey Yunick’s car in the 1963 Daytona 500.
Who is SVG?

Gisbergen is a 35-year-old Supercar racer from New Zealand. His first full season in Supercars came in 2008. SVG didn’t pick up steam until he went to the Now defunct Stone Brothers Racing finishing on the podium regularly in 2010. SVG started to break through and win races in 2011 and 2012. Not too long after that, he moved on to Tekno Autosports for three years and then broke the door down in 2016 winning a Championship for Triple Eight Racing, a branch of Red Bull Racing.
SVG would go on to win two more championships in 2021 and 2022. SVG competed in the 24 hours of Daytona multiple times his best finish being 2nd place in 2015 for Alex Job Racing in the GTD class in a Porsche 911. SVG also competed in the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2023 he bursted onto the American stage like we have never seen before. In the 2023 Chicago Street Race SVG took Trackhouse racing to victory lane in his first-ever start. First time since 1963 for the Daytona 500, we saw a driver win in his maiden race.
He joins the ranks of drivers like Leon Sales who won in North Wilkesboro in 1950 and Jim Roper who won the first NASCAR race in history in 1949. This past year Gisbergen has run in the Xfinity Series full time for Trackhouse Racing winning three races locked into the Xfinity Series Playoffs and currently sits 12th in the points with five Top 5’s and and six Top 10’s.
Trackouse Racing
Trackhouse Racing is a fairly young team coming in full-time after purchasing all the assets of Chip Ganassi Racing in 2021 and running two full time teams in 2022. Trackhouse Racing is owned by Racer Justin Marks and Musician Pitbull. Since they have come into the sport Ross Chastain and Daniel Sauez have won five races, Including a Championship 4 appearance by Ross Chastain in 2022. Adding a talent like Shane Van Gisbergen will bolster Trackhouse now having three full-time rides starting in 2025.
Trackhouse Racing Purchased a charter from Stewart HAAS after they announced a major downsizing earlier this year. Trackhouse has shown they are a legitimate team gunning for a championship tracking every traditional way of building a championship team. Look for the young team to be a factor everywhere in the years to come. Justin Marks is one of the best Owners in NASCAR and he knows how to race and now showing how to win as an owner. Expect the growth to only continue.
