Summer League Spotlight: The Best Players From July 6th

The first day of Summer League action is officially over. With four games done, plenty of players had good showings. There were great defensive plays made and some fantastic offensive performances. There were a handful of guys that outplayed the rest and helped bring their team to victory. The California Classic is proving to be exciting, and hopefully, this continues tomorrow.

Now, with the night done, it’s time to shine a spotlight on the best players from the winning teams of July 6th.

It’s safe to say that Adonis Arms was one of the best players today. He started for the Sacramento King’s second team, and he did not disappoint. Arms was explosive on offense with 32 points and eleven rebounds giving him the double-double. The Los Angeles Lakers looked lost trying to cover him.

This guy is looking like a well-oiled machine on the court. He was able to play bully ball in the paint and showed off his great athleticism. I can see Arms making it onto an NBA roster very soon. He was very impressive tonight and will most likely continue this great play. Arms should be on the watchlist of many fans. If you want to watch good basketball this summer, this player is one to put on your radar.

The Rest of The Best

Golden State Warriors

This one is a bit of a toss-up. Ethan Thompson had 27 points and seven rebounds this evening, while Daeqwon Plowden had 26 points. However, Plowden managed a 71.4 field goal percentage and a 66.7 three-point percentage, which is very impressive. Thompson played incredibly off the bench, but the starting center took over so much of the game.

Plowden would be the first player on the board for GSW, and the scoring would continue to be poured on from him. He was the standout player in this match. However, Ethan Thompson deserves acknowledgment as well, with an amazing performance coming off the bench.

Charlotte Hornets

Mouhamadou Gueye should be handed his flowers tonight after how well he played. In 22 minutes, Gueye had 21 points. The young player was a burst of energy for his team as he led them in scoring. He also managed to lead in steals and blocks. Consistency was key here as he hit a majority of his shots with a 64.3% field goal percentage.

Expect Gueye to come out hot again in his next game. He’s clearly playing hungry and wants to be noticed. I have no doubt that he will have at least 15 points in the next game. I can also see him being the leading scorer very consistently this Summer League. Gueye could be at the top of the charts for California Classic players.

Sacramento Kings 1

The top scorer of the night for the King’s first team was Mason Jones. The guard had 19 points, five assists, and four rebounds. However, more can be said about starting guard Keon Ellis. This guy was everywhere tonight and showed up every time the team needed him. Yes, the Kings dominated in this California Classic game, but Ellis was the big contributor.

Ellis had 18 points, four assists, four rebounds, one steal, and one block. You could say the guard was flying up and down the court. He went 50% from the three-point line and field goal range. The China National Team could not stop this man. He was dashing through the paint and breaking down the defense. There’s no question that Ellis was the man of the game despite not leading in scoring. The 24-year-old may have struggled a bit in the big leagues, but he proved himself in tonight’s Summer League game.
