Is Stefon Diggs a Good Signing For New England Patriots?

New England Patriots Stefon Diggs

The New England Patriots recently signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Houston Texans to a 3-year contract worth $69 million with $26 million guaranteed. Now with the arrival of Diggs in Foxborough this should help Drake Maye, and the New England Patriots make an impact on offense.

Did The New England Patriots Make a Good Signing in Diggs?

Despite the impressive track record Diggs has had around the league with being with Minnesota, Buffalo and Houston there are questions for the star wideout in New England. Can he recover from a torn ACL injury that he suffered from last season in Houston? Diggs showed that he can shred defenses with his speed and agility.

However, the Patriots were apparently pleased with Diggs’ recovery, given the three-year contract they handed out this week with only a portion of that $69 million payout guaranteed. It remains to be seen what Diggs’ availability will be moving forward — with an ACL injury potentially sidelining wideouts for close to a year.

The New England Patriots have not had a wide receiver post a 1,000-yard season since Julian Edelman in 2019. From 2018 to 23, Diggs recorded six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons while earning four Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pro selections. Diggs was part of the “Minnesota Miracle,” and once traded to the Buffalo Bills, he and Josh Allen were one of the best dynamic duos in football.

Former wide receiver Julian Edelman said that he thinks the Diggs acquisition will provide much-needed motivation for New England’s younger players, especially other receivers. The New England Patriots have Kendrick Bourne, DeMario Douglas, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Mack Hollins as their wideouts. None of these receivers made it to over 700 yards last season, they were the worst overall passing group in the NFL. Now, with Stefon Diggs, the Patriots are looking ahead with Drake Maye to be more productive on offense.

New England Patriots Outlook

The New England Patriots are also in a great position in the 2025 NFL Draft at the number four overall pick. Depending on how the board falls, it’s either Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado cornerback/wideout Travis Hunter.

The Patriots were one of the most dominant teams in the NFL when Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were in New England, but everything must come to an end eventually. Now, with the Patriots rebuilding with a whole new team, they are hoping that the signing of Stefon Diggs can help Drake Maye and the offense come alive.
