Sri Lanka’s Historic ODI Series Win Over India

Sri Lanka achieved an incredible victory by winning their first-ever ODI series against India since 1997. The host defeated Rohit Sharma and his team by a margin of 110 runs in the third ODI at Colombo on Wednesday. This victory turned out to be one of the biggest milestones that Sri Lankan cricket has ever experienced.

Sri Lanka won the three-match ODI series against India. A tie in the first match and a victory by 32 runs in the second match. The performance was consistent, which showed they were very well prepared and determined. In the third ODI, India was chasing 249. The batting line came under pressure, and the team was reduced to a low score of 138 runs in 26.1 overs. The setback was huge for the visitors.

India Collapses: Sharma and Kohli Fall Short

Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for India, having made 35 runs off 20 balls. However, this effort wasn’t enough to hold the innings together. Sharma’s dismissal could very easily be termed a crucial blow to India’s chances. One more critical player, Virat Kohli, too, succeeded in making only 20 runs off 18 balls before he was dismissed. His going added to the problems of India in getting partnerships together.

The middle order for India fell quickly. Rishabh Pant added just 6 runs, Shreyas Iyer could get only eight, and Axar Patel two. The Lankan spin attack was too hot to handle. Washington Sundar hit back with 30 runs off 25 balls. But his effort was all for nothing as he became the last man to fall, with India slipping to 138 for nine. chances of the team slipping away rapidly.

Kuldeep’s Dismissal Ends India’s Hopes

On the very first ball of the 27th over, Kuldeep Yadav was out. That marked the end of India’s inning and the confirmation of the historic series win by Sri Lanka. Through the last few overs, it has all been a formality. Sri Lanka did get off to a good start, putting up 248 runs for seven in 50 overs.

Their opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando gave them a strong footing with an 89-run partnership. Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando gave a start of 89 in 19.4 overs to the Sri Lanka team. Pathum Nissanka’s 45 was made from 65 balls when he fell. Avishka Fernando fell off a hundred, making 95 from 102 balls. Kusal Mendis played a vital role with 59 runs, while Kamindu Mendis contributed 23 during the latter end.

Sri Lanka’s Bowling Heroes Shine

Dunith Wellalage was impressive with the ball—he took five wickets. Jeffrey Vandersay was able to claim two wickets. All their work combined was good enough to dismantle India’s batting act, and hence they got a memorable win. This victory for Sri Lanka is not just another feather in their cap in this series but an epitome of their rising strength in international cricket.
