Spurs 17-Year-Old Loanee Earn Big Point For Westerlo

Tottenham Spurs Ange Postecoglu

On Friday night, Spurs’ young talents Luka Vuskovic and Alfie Devine took to the field for KVC Westerlo as they faced Beerschot in the Belgian Pro League. Both players were in the starting lineup for the third match in a row. Vuskovic was once more positioned in the center of the back three, while Devine took his place as one of the two number-eights in a 3412 formation set up by manager Timmy Simons.

Vuskovic Scores Brace

Westerlo went into the break trailing 1-0, even though they were the better side, firing off nine shots compared to just two from their rivals. At the 57-minute mark, Vuskovic had a great chance but headed the ball over the bar from a corner kick. He made his mark four minutes later, heading the ball into the net from a similar spot to bring Westerlo level. Five minutes later, Vuskovic took his third shot of the match, heading the ball over from a bit further out. With 70 minutes gone, the Croatian defender took another shot, but Nick Shinton was there to make the save.

With just nine minutes to go, Beerschot capitalized on Westerlo’s missed chances and took the lead again. Three minutes later, Vuskovic found the back of the net again with his fifth shot of the match, scoring his second goal. It was his fifth try, but this time, he scored with his left foot from about six yards after several deflections. The 17-year-old kept pushing for more, taking two more shots, one flying over from distance. He even had another effort saved in stoppage time, chasing that impressive hat trick, but it didn’t happen for him.

Vuskovic and Devine Shine Against Beerschot

Vuskovic’s two goals helped his team secure a draw. In addition to scoring two goals, he had an impressive seven shots, touched the ball 100 times, made 75 successful passes, and won all six of his aerial battles in a standout performance. His current stats in the Belgian Pro League are four goals, one assist, three aerial duels won per game, and six clearances made per game, all in ten games played.

Devine put in a solid performance, playing the full 90 minutes. He had 66 touches on the ball, completed two out of three long passes, took two shots, made three tackles, and had one interception.

Vuskovic Could Be Another Van De Veen For Spurs

Spurs already struck a deal to bring Luka Vuskovic to the Club in 2025 from Hajduk Split, with the agreement lasting until 2030. Luka (17) came up through the youth system at Hajduk Split. He made his professional debut in February 2023 to become the youngest player in the Croatian top league. He then scored his first goal as a pro against NK Osijek, making him the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history.

Last week, the 17-year-old assist against Leige made Spurs fans compare him to one of their center-backs. Vuskovic picked up the ball at the halfway line and charged towards the Liege defenders. He skillfully escapes one of them and sends a perfect left-footed pass to his teammate, Matija Frigan, who finishes it to secure the victory. It’s a run and pass that brings to mind Micky van de Ven’s amazing assist earlier this season when Spurs trashed Everton. He sprinted from the edge of his box before setting up Heung-min Son to seal a 4-0 win.

Conclusion

Spurs signed the talented center-back last summer, but they will have to wait two years before he can officially join the team. After a loan spell in Poland last season, Vuskovic is making waves in Belgium. He played a key role in helping his team grab a crucial point against Beerschot.

Alfie Devine is also another Spurs loanee who impressed for Westerlo against Beerschot. Although, Devine already played for Spurs first team before leaving on loan.
