Penultimate Moment Helps Spain Defeat Germany 2-1 To Reach The Euro 2024 Semi-Final

Spain became the first team to secure a spot in the semi-finals at Euro 2024. Their game against Germany went into extra-time, adding to the excitement for fans and keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.

The first half of the match was filled with tension as both teams struggled to find their rhythm. The game was constantly interrupted by fouls and a lack of precision in the final third.

After the break, Spain took the lead as Dani Olmo made his way into the box and expertly finished Lamine Yamal’s well-placed pass. In the 15th minute, Antonio Rudiger received a yellow card, granting Spain a valuable opportunity with a free kick. Lamine Yamal missed, as the 16-year-old’s shot was off target.

After a series of precise passes, Germany had a promising scoring chance but Kai Havertz’s header was caught by Spanish keeper Unai Simon. Kai Havertz received a beautiful pass from Antonio Rüdiger near the end of the first half, but his shot attempt missed the mark.

Spain, who had been in complete control throughout the first half, had an opportunity to find the back of the net courtesy of Dani Olmo. The RB Leipzig forward unleashed a powerful strike towards the German net, only to be stopped by the exceptional reflexes of Manuel Neuer.

In the early stages of the second half, Spain found themselves in a promising position right in front of the German net. However, Alvaro Morata’s shot unfortunately sailed over the crossbar. Spain finally took the lead over Germany in the 51st minute when Dani Olmo scored.

Germany applied pressure to Spain immediately after conceding a goal, but they were unable to level the score. Germany relentlessly pressed forward, and Robert Andrich saw a chance to shoot. Unfortunately, Unai Simon managed to block his shot.

With precision passing, Germany found themselves with yet another chance to score. However, Niclas Fullkrug’s shot from up close unfortunately struck the post. Kai Havertz then missed a golden opportunity to score as his chipped shot sailed high over the net.

Germany had been struggling to find the back of the net, but Florian Wirtz came through with a crucial goal to level the game in the 89th minute. The game eventually went into extra time.

Germany had an early opportunity in the extra-time with Robert Andrich leading the charge. The Bayer Leverkusen man had an opportunity to score for Germany, but unfortunately, his attempt was blocked, resulting in the ball being kicked out of play.

Florian Wirtz thought he had scored another goal for Germany, but his shot was just wide of the net.

Just as the extra time was about to end, Mikel Merino found the back of the net, securing a crucial 2-1 victory for Spain over Germany.

In the 120’+3 minute, Germany found themselves in a promising position near the goal. However, Niclas Fullkrug’s header failed to find its target, leaving the German team disappointed. Just moments later, the referee signaled the end of the match, leaving the host nation devastated.

Dani Carvajal received a second yellow card late in extra time, resulting in his suspension from Tuesday’s semifinal against France. This suspension will undoubtedly be a blow to Spain’s defensive lineup. Unfortunately, fellow defender Robin Le Normand will be absent from the upcoming match due to receiving another booking.

Spain is set to face France in the highly anticipated semifinals.
