It must be mentioned that Kohli has the highest number of runs in T20 World Cup history, 1,216, but the current tournament is nothing more than a tale full of disappointments for him. He could only manage 75 runs in seven innings, his worst form in T20 World Cups. His worst form has brought him under intense scrutiny with questions about him playing for XI in the final.
Sourav Ganguly defended Virat Kohli and reminded everyone of his impressive show in IPL 2024 when he scored 741 runs from 15 matches. Though he gave Virat Kohli a free pass on this as “he is one player who we are lucky to have,” Ganguly said every senior cricketer would go through phases of not scoring.
Sourav Ganguly said
‘Leave Virat Kohli alone. He’s a quality player. He played a World Cup where he scored 700 runs only seven months ago for us. He is human. Sometimes he screws up too, and you need to embrace that.’
Virat Kohli Comparisons with Legends
He further pinned Kohli up as a member of legendary Indian cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Stating that some poor games do not reduce Virat Kohli’s status as a player, he backed his play to come through in the final.
Talking About Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly said
‘Virat Kohli, Tendulkar or Dravid – they are institutions in Indian cricket. It is not as though their players become weak overnight within just three or four matches. Don’t write him off in the final tomorrow,’ Ganguly opined.

‘Virat Kohli is a class player. Every player goes through a lull. We know his class and his big-game importance. Form is never a problem. You know your game is not in a bad space when you have played 15 years of cricket.’ Rohit said. ‘He’s doing well enough, the intent is there for certain no doubt about that.’
Sourav Ganguly and Rohit Sharma Support Kohli Ahead Of T20 World Cup Final in India. Though he has not yet played well, they see him capable of coming into his own in the all-important clash against South Africa.
