On Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Brentford 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Dominic Solanke opening his goal-scoring account. The 27-year-old summer signing helped Spurs in bouncing back from an early deficit to win three points. Solanke found the back of the net just eight minutes into his fourth appearance for Spurs to make the match 1-1. Bryan Mbeumo struck early, volleying Brentford into the lead just 24 seconds into the match.
Solanke, Johnson, Maddison Help Spurs Beat Brentford
Tottenham came back from a poor start to defeat Brentford 3-1 in Saturday’s London derby. Ange Postecoglou’s squad found themselves in an early deficit, conceding a goal just 23 seconds into the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Bryan Mbeumo scored a stunning volley from Keane Lewis-Potter’s cross to give Brentford the lead. Spurs responded just seven minutes later as Dominic Solanke found the back of the net for the first time since he joined Tottenham. Solanke capitalized on a rebound after Mark Flekken parried James Maddison’s initial shot right in his front.
In the 28th minute, Spurs completed their comeback as Brennan Johnson found the back of the net with a low-driven shot to make it 2-1. Guglielmo Vicario made a stunning reflex save, expertly denying Kevin Schade’s header in the second half. Tottenham then secured all three points with just five minutes before the final whistle. Maddison finished off a quick Spurs counterattack by lobbing Flekken.
Brentford Scores Another Early Premier League Goal
For the second consecutive week, Brentford has made headlines by finding the back of the net in the opening minute of a match. Last weekend, Yoane Wissa found the back of the net just 22 seconds into the match against defending champions Manchester City. However, much like their previous clash at The Etihad, Brentford walked away without any points. The Bees have etched their name in Premier League history as just the second team, following in the footsteps of City, to net a goal within the opening minute of consecutive matches.
Spurs bounced back from this early setback as Maddison took advantage of a poor pass made by Ethan Pinnock out of defense. Flekken managed to parry the initial shot, but Dominic Solanke was quick on his feet. He seized the opportunity to slot home the equalizer and finally get a goal for Spurs. In an interview after the match, Dominic Solanke said: “[It feels] fantastic. To get the win here meant a lot to all of us. We have had some great performances to start the season but haven’t managed to get them to match that so today we wanted to mix them both together. Today we did that.”
What Next For Tottenham
It was important for Ange Postecoglou’s side to get a win against Brentford after a couple of early losses that made fans really upset. With seven points from their first five games, Spurs moves up to tenth place in the Premier League table. Tottenham will face Qarabag FK on Thursday, 26th September in the Europa League. Afterwards, they will travel to Old Trafford for a massive clash against Manchester United.
