As the newly crowned World Champions, India is calling on its younger players to step up, and Shubman Gill is keen to maintain his position in the team. Shubman Gill is about to begin a brand new chapter of his life as India’s captain for the Zimbabwe series. Having missed out on a spot in the T20 World Cup squad and serving as a traveling reserve in the USA,
When asked about his preferred batting role, Shubman Gill made it clear that he wants to open in T20Is.
Shubman Gill Said:
I assume Rohit Sharma turned into an opener and Virat Kohli  additionally opened in this World Cup. I actually have additionally opened in T20s. So, I think I will want to open in T20Is.
Shubman Gill emphasized that he would not need to put undue stress on himself by seeking to match the achievements of Rohit and Kohli.  They always stay. But what Virat and Rohit have carried out, if I appear to attain that or reach that, will be very tough for me. Every player has an intention of where he desires to reach. That is the pressure. If you want to attain that which other humans have reached, then you have more strain.

Shubman Gill is Learning from Legends

Shubman Gill sees Rohit and Virat Kohli as idols and legends of Indian cricket. There’s pressure on the players and the team—things we want to achieve. Shubman Gill confirmed that Abhishek Sharma, who had an outstanding season with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024, will open the innings with him in the five-match Twenty20 series against Zimbabwe. Hardik Pandya, who captained the Mumbai Indians and led the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, has learned valuable lessons from Gill’s experience.
The young captain said:

When I first captained my IPL team, I learned a lot of lessons. I learned a lot about myself and a lot about leadership style. Everyone has a skill set, it’s about how you can give them the confidence to deliver that skill set on the field.

The younger Indian cricketer, Gill, revealed that the team for the Zimbabwe series is very different from the one he played in the World Cup. There are a lot of young players with me on the team. We just want to give the players the experience and what it’s like to play internationally because a lot of players haven’t played that many games yet and some players haven’t even made their debuts

In front of Zimbabwe Gill acknowledged the challenge posed by Zimbabwe and praised their T20 team. He stated:

I think they’ve got a good Twenty20 team. Even the last time we played in ODIs, the last ODI we played was very close. We know it won’t be different.
