The final match of IPL 2024 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), with the latter managing the host in Chennai. Before the actual intense face-off, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer and SRH captain Pat Cummins decided to bring a bit of humor that really impressed the fans. Apart from that, they even got candid with the IPL trophy, and there was no hiding the rivalry between the two countries.
With friendship still tight, they went for a Marina Beach trip and took a rather hilarious auto ride, much to everyone’s amusement. To the comic relief of both riders, Shreyas compared the recent experience to those times when he used to travel in autorickshaws and offered to take Cummins for a spin for Rs. 20 crore, an obvious dig at Cummins’ steep auction price.
This rhetorical and lighthearted dialogue gave the pre-match confrontations a silly and entertaining angle.

On the auto ride, Shreyas, who was also excited to go for the tour, started sharing his memories of how he used to take autorickshaws often when he was young. Sarcastically, in a humorous tone, and for the sake of laughter, he billed Cummins as Rs 20 crore for a ride imitating Cummins’s monstrous Rs 20. The acquisition from the IPL 2024 auction put him in focus with a staggering 5 crore price tag.
In one, the joke left both captains in fits of laughter, aimed at showing their excellent relationship. Shreyas also asked Cummins about the remaining part of his journey at KKR, especially when the team won the IPL title back in 2014.

KKR emerged as the overall winners at the end of the league stage, thus indicating that the side had been steady till the last stage of the tournament. They won IPL 2024 by winning the qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, hence qualifying directly for the final.

SRH’s Road to Redemption
Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, had a relatively far more difficult journey towards the finals. Shastri has risen from the disappointment of KKR’s Qualifier 1 loss to lead his team to victory over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the eliminator round and quell the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. These victories led to an interesting high-strength match against the KKR at the famous Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
In the culmination, the jovial presence between Shreyas Iyer and Pat Cummins has been a good nature that provided spices into the competitive spirit. People look forward to the event and the final match in particular, as they are waiting for some nail-biting cricket to end the IPL 2024 series. The good-natured banter between the two captains pumped up the morale in what turned out to be a great finale.
