Shoaib Malik Sadly Criticizes Babar Azam’s Fit in Top International T20 Teams

Everyone, more or less, was not happy with the current formation of Babar Azam in the white-ball tournament. The former Pakistani captain Shoaib Malik has been even harsher in criticizing the current attitude of Pakistan’s captain in T20 international cricket.

Its intervention implies that Babar Azam should alter their batting style in the T20Is; should they fail to do that, then they should not be part of the team. His comments suggest increasing worry about the team’s performance and the necessity for the key players to adapt to modern cricket conditions.

Joining the company of critics, the ex-Pakistan captain has not spared the current T20I captain Babar Azam either. These remarks came after Pakistan was thoroughly trashed in the just-ended T20 World Cup in the group stages by both the USA and India.

Questioning Babar Azam’s Suitability

Although Malik praised Babar as a great player, he still doubted if he has what it takes to captain top T20I teams such as Australia, India, or England. Islamabad United, or does any other team have the best player? The best player is Babar Azam. During a show, Shoaib had a lot to say about the current Pakistani captain. He said:

I am talking about the top four to five teams; can Babar Azam play in the playing eleven of Australia’s team, Indian team, or English team’ in just this format of cricket? This daring statement brings to the fore an interesting controversy as to the feasibility of Babar Azam as a T20I team player and as a prospective captain.

Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup, for which the team got eliminated early, has added more pressure to Babar along with the strategy. The team’s failure to move past the group stage as well as dependence on other team’s results are symptomatic of other problems within the team. Moreover, news of interpersonal relationships among the players caused more harm to the team. Furthermore, coach Gary Kirsten also raised the issue of bad atmosphere of the dressing room.

Malik’s criticism combines to increase apprehensions about the current stance of Pakistani cricket and the imperative of having profound stock-taking.

Criticizing further to point, former Indian cricketer and current commentator Parthiv Patel previously called Babar Azam a ‘selfish player. ‘ Speaking in an interview, Patel raised concerns over the continuous slide in Pakistani cricket and criticized Babar for his unfit leadership. Lack of chances was devoid of captain selfishness, as Patel said while analyzing Babar’s time as a captain of the cricket team Pakistan.

Scattered Reflections of Pakistan Cricket

Such comments from other significant personalities in cricket can be seen to relate to other issues that relate to Pakistan’s ability to perform well on an international platform. Ever since Pakistan’s disappointing show in the T20 World Cup, there has been debate about whether major changes are required within the team or not, particularly in terms of leadership.

Especially valuable for the future progression of Pakistan’s team were the input and assessments from veteran players such as Shoaib Malik and Parthiv Patel.

Babar Azam thus needs to step up as Pakistan’s chief player, and there is increasing pressure to transform and excel in the T20I. The next couple of months will therefore be determined in the quest to deal with these factors and improve the teams’ standing in internationals.
