Last month, Pakistan played Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, losing both games in unexpected ways. Shan Masood took over as Green Shirts’ Test captain last year, and despite the team’s poor performance under his captaincy, he is probably going to stay in the position. In his five games as Pakistan’s Test team captain thus far, the left-handed hitter has lost all of them.
Next month, a three-match Test series between PAK and ENG is scheduled. Starting on October 7, Multan will host the first game of the series against the Ben Stokes-led team. The second match of the series is slated to take place there from October 15–19. The second Test was supposed to take place in Karachi’s National Stadium, but the game has been shifted outside of Karachi owing to ongoing development at the venue.

Later this week, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to reveal the playing lineup for the home series. A source suggests that three or four players from the team that played Bangladesh may be left off of the roster. Before the two losses, Masood’s record against Bangladesh was unbeaten.
This was after he took over as captain in November of last year when PAK had never lost against Bangladesh. It was a 3-0 loss in Australia during his debut series. Although it was first stated earlier this month that he would be fired, more recent sources indicate that he may receive another opportunity. He may even be involved in choosing the players for the next high-profile series at home.
The selection committee will finalize a list of possible players after conferring with the head coach and captain. For a considerable amount of time, Pakistan’s opening batsmen Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub have struggled with their form, while their star batsman Babar Azam has not made fifty or more runs in any of his last sixteen Test innings.

Although it is unlikely that Babar will be removed from the team, Saim and Shafique, who received harsh criticism for their disastrous performance against Bangladesh, are not in the same boat. After his recovery from a back injury, bowling all-arounder Aamer Jamal was also included in the 15-man roster that the Pakistan Cricket Board released on Tuesday.
Along with Abrar Ahmed, Noman will be the Green Shirts’ second specialist spin option in a squad selected for the first test. Fast bowler Khurram Shahzad was forced to miss the second test against Bangladesh due to a left side strain that he was unable to heal from. Both middle-order hitter Kamran Ghulam and fast bowler Muhammad Ali, who were both a member of Pakistan’s team during the Bangladesh series, were left off by the selectors.
The third and final test will be held at Rawalpindi starting on October 24, while the first three test matches will be held at Multan from October 7–19. Starting on October 1, the Pakistani team will hold a pre-series training camp in Multan. Shan Masood (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Huraira, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Shaheen Shah Afridi are the members of the test team.
