The PCB has agreed that Shan Masood will continue as skipper of the Pakistan Test cricket team ahead of a busy international season. Shan Masood was appointed Test captain for the first time earlier this year during Pakistan’s tour of Australia. Now, the left-handed opener is going to lead his team in the upcoming series against Bangladesh, South Africa, and the West Indies from August to January.
The schedule for the next few months is packed for the cricket side of Pakistan. They are to play three Test matches against England in October and later more Test matches in preparation against Bangladesh, South Africa, and the West Indies. All these important tasks make the PCB the ideal person to guide the team.
Shan Masood’s Test Captaincy is Secured
An important meeting of the PCB was recently held in Lahore. In the PCB meeting, senior board officials, national selectors, head coach Jason Gillespie, white-ball coach Gary Kirsten, and assistant coach Azar Mehmod participated. The inference on the agenda was Pakistan’s below-par performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in the Americas.
It was unanimously decided in the meeting that Shan Masood would remain the captain of the Test format. Shan Masood was appointed Test captain for the first time earlier this year during Pakistan’s tour of Australia. The PCB and the coaches believe that Shan Masood can assist in getting better performances for the team in the upcoming Test matches. They think he has displayed good mentorship and can steer the team to success.
However, the PCB has not made a final decision as to the future of Babar Azam as the captain of white-ball teams. Much debate centered on Babar Azam, the captain and batsman. Some people consider him an uninspiring captain who never showed anything that could be termed ‘”strong leadership” when things were down against the team during the T20 World Cup.
Though much criticism came upon Babar Azam regarding leadership during the T20 World Cup, many people felt he was unable to withstand pressure and couldn’t provide a spark when the situation was high on his team. With fans admiring him as a great batsman, his captaincy wisdom has come under study.
Sarfraz Nawaz Criticizes PCB’s Selection Process
Ex-Pakistan pacer Sarfraz Nawaz shares his views on the whole development. According to him, the entire selection committee should disappear for their failure to do so. He added that the selectors were not competent enough, and their decision-making was very poor in the run-up to the T20 World Cup. Sarfraz Nawaz is demanding responsibility from within the PCB.
Sarfraz Nawaz also alerted Wahab Riaz, the former selector of the Pakistan cricket team. Many times, Sarfraz Nawaz told the PCB not to provide him with any departmental executive jobs. Sarfraz Nawaz is demanding responsibility from within the PCB. The viewpoint was that Wahab Riaz would not work for them properly and that his record was not fine. He did warn against taking him as a selector, advisor, and manager.
