There were rumors that Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood and star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi have a falling out but these rumors have been proven wrong. It followed after Shaheen was dropped from the second Test against Bangladesh, along with rumors of discontent after a video clip that went viral from the first Test. It featured Shaheen pushing Masood’s hand off her shoulder which caused controversy in their relationship.
Shan Masood Setting the Record Straight
Upon rumors, Shan Masood said there was no problem between him and Shaheen Shah Afridi. He thinks this ugly incident that happened during the first Test was misunderstood. According to Shan Masood, Shaheen had politely removed his hand from his shoulder because it was sore after being struck by a ball while batting, he stated;
There are no issues between us and infact only a certain part of the clip is around but if you see the full clip you can see shaheen had his arms around my back.
He also talks about why Shaheen wasn’t included in the second Test and denies that the video incident had anything to do with it. He explained that they decided who to include after discussion, ensuring it was best for the team. To this Shan Masood empathized saying that the team appreciates Shaheen’s contribution and the decision was made mutually to have the player in the best shape for the next matches.
Focus on the Team, Not the Captaincy

The Pakistan captain also used the occasion to dismiss assertions that he is worried about his place in the team particularly as captain of the side. Masood, who took over the captaincy under challenging circumstances, emphasized that his primary focus remains on leading the team forward, regardless of external pressures, Pak Red-ball captain mentioned;
I don’t think about these things because being made captain is a privilege and until I am captain my only focus is to take the team forward. There is no doubt that losing to Bangladesh two nil is totally unacceptable for us as well.
There remains much hope and Shan Masood stated clearly that the team’s performance in the limited-overs series was caused by a failure of mental strength rather than talent. They think the team will have a shot at making a comeback and the energy is solely towards getting ready for what is to come. Shan Masood made a quite clear effort to downplay the conflicts within the Pakistan team and assure everyone that they are looking forward to having teamwork in the future. This is especially important as Pakistan is entering a season of numerous cricketing encounters.
Some key players like Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel are not in form, and fans and followers want them to get in good form as soon as possible. After performing poorly against the Bangladesh team in this test series, the team management shall work to improve the quality performance of the team, specifically on the batting line.
