Shadman Islam’s Nitty Gritty Fifty in Tough Morning Test Session

Pakistan vs Bangladesh 1st Test: Sadman Islam Shines in Test Return

After a 29-month absence, Shadman Islam returned to Test cricket with an almost century-plus half-century. With a century, the 29-year-old could have written a legendary comeback after a twenty-minute tea break. But when he was on 93, Pakistani pacer Muhammad Ali removed him from the game. Bangladesh is still down by 249 runs with four wickets lost for 199 runs. Before the lunch break, Shadman Islam hit his third career fifty.

For the first time since 2022, the star batter opened the innings and was on his way to a century. He was 7 runs short despite hitting quite well. Bangladesh had reached 199 for 4 in 66 overs before the third-day tea break. With 38 balls out, Mushfiqur Rahim was batting at 15 runs. Day 3 of the Rawalpindi Test saw Bangladesh seize control of the opening session despite the loss of Zakir Hasan and Naimul Hossain Shanto due to the partnership between Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque.

Shadman Islam and Mushfiqur Rebuild

Not long after, Mominul Haque, who had scored his 19th fifty, had to leave. Mominul’s 50-run dismissal ended the 94-run partnership he had with Shadman. With Mushfiqur Rahim, Shadman Islam took over the innings and got closer to a century. During this time, Shadman overcame an LBW judgment during a review. While Pakistan was unsuccessful in its bid to dismiss Mushfiqur through review.

Before the tea break, the 29-year-old reached his fifty with a strong effort of 123 balls, but Mohammad Ali’s outstanding delivery saw him out for 93. His innings were up, and he had to head back to the pavilion. With 93 speeches over more than five and a half hours, Shadman Islam set the groundwork for Bangladesh‘s resistance, which was further developed by Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Litton Das with their half-centuries.

Pakistan’s Intense Morning Test

Despite Pakistan‘s intense efforts, the initial three-hour session was harshly going to serve as a test for them. After failing to score a boundary in the first two hours of the day, Shaheen gave Shadman Islam a release in the morning’s 24th over when he hit a half-volley to the cover boundary and a full-toss back past the bowler. Then, to cross another boundary and reach the 40s, he went up to Salman Ali Agha and drilled him through the covers.

But Naseem’s otherwise good day took a turn for the worst when he let up three fours in his last two overs before lunch. Mominul hit two balls in as many balls as possible in a short space of time: a cheeky uppercut over the slips and a slow step back. As well as across to flat-bat a ball that was short of mid-on. Shadman Islam then scored his fifty on the last ball of the session with a lifted four.

Mominul and the 29-year-old shared a third-wicket partnership of 94 runs before Shahzad ended it in the fourth over following lunch. The wicket was almost the same as Zakir’s. Mominul stepped half forward to defend after a full-length delivery from around the wicket, and an inward seam movement bridged the bat-pad gap.
