Seth Curry is the younger brother of Golden State Warriors star Point Guard Steph Curry. However, the younger Curry brother can be described as a journeyman shooting guard and point guard.
Curry, 33, signed with the Dallas Mavericks on July 14, 2023, for his third stint with the team. But the Mavericks traded him, Grant Williams, and a 2027 first-round draft pick in exchange for P.J. Washington and two future second-round draft picks. He was waived by the Hornets on June 28, 2024, but quickly re-signed with the team just weeks later on July 15, 2024.
Aside from the Mavericks, Curry played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets, along with the NBA G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors and Erie BayHawks. Read on for more information on Curry’s recent re-signing with the Hornets.
Seth Curry Re-Signs With Charlotte Hornets
Seth Curry is the second son of former NBA player Dell Curry and former NCAA women’s volleyball player Sonya Curry. Seth followed his older brother Steph Curry’s footsteps and eventually played in the NBA, despite going undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft. The Curry brothers have a younger sister Sydel Curry, who’s a former NCAA women’s volleyball player like her mother Sonya.
There aren’t many details surrounding Curry’s re-signing with the Hornets, but Sports Illustrated reported that Curry re-signed with the team on a one-year deal and was waived from a $4 million contract. It’s safe to say that he’s on a minimum contract right now. He might be able to help a young Hornets with his veteran presence.
Seth Curry Joins Former Dallas Mavericks in Charlotte
Seth Curry won’t be the only former Dallas Mavericks player now in Charlotte, North Carolina. Curry will join former Mavericks players Grant Williams and Josh Green in Charlotte, N.C. Curry, Williams, and Green might be able to help a struggling Charlotte Hornets team, who went just 21-61 in 2023-24 and missed the NBA Playoffs for the eighth straight season, live up to their potential in the near future.
As a veteran guard, Curry could balance out the Hornets’ young roster with younger NBA stars such as LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. Curry’s 2023-24 average of 5.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and a 39.2% field goal percentage could be improved with a new team, along with a change of scenery. After all, his father Dell played for the Hornets from 1988 to 1998.
What Seth Curry’s One-Year Deal Means
Seth Curry reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets. Curry will play for his ninth NBA team in the 2024-25 NBA season. But there’s more to the headline than Curry’s re-signing with the Hornets.
Curry might be a short-term solution for the Hornets, who appear to be unsure of Curry’s future with the team. But, for the time being, his deal could lead to him possibly becoming a role player for the team’s backcourt, alongside LaMelo Ball, who was injured during the 2023-24 NBA season. He could become an integral role player.
As the Hornets finalize their 2024-25 roster, Curry appears to be a part of the team’s soon-to-be role players’ rotation. The Hornets also re-signed Miles Bridges to a three-year deal and added first-round pick Tidjaune Salaun and second-round pick KJ Simpson. The upcoming Hornets roster could become a playoff team next season with the team’s recent signings.
