The appointment of the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team has been welcomed across the board by former players domiciled in India as well as those from other countries. One of the greatest fast bowling icons in South Africa, Dale Steyn, notably commended One of the greatest fast-bowling icons in South Africa, Dale Steyn, notably commended Gambhir, saying that although he was quite aggressive on the field, he was very humble and gentlemanly on it. The pacer stated:
I like Gautam Gambhir very much as a player, especially his aggressive attitude on the ground. I precisely played against a few Indian players who showed interest in counterbacking, and I enjoyed that. Definitely, Gambhir was one of them; therefore, I think he will bring the same aggressive attitude to the dressing room too now. Some of the senior cricketers, like Virat Kohli, may not contribute as much as they used to, but Gambhir has a lot to give now.

Former South Africa cricketer Graeme Smith and arguably one of the best all-round cricketers of modern-day cricket. He has also termed high praise for Gambhir’s cricketing brain as well as the possible value he can bring in as a coach. Smith said:
It is good to see guys transitioning to coaching. He has a good cricketing brain and a lot of fire in him. He loves aggressive cricket and will pass on this feeling to the team. The players are going to learn a lot from him. He is going to add a lot of value to the Indian side. I wish him all the best, but not too much success against us. He is going to do a fantastic job.

Dale Steyn also insisted on the increased use of players like Gambhir in world cricket.
Cricket, not only in India but all over the world, requires aggressive players. We play in leagues with one another, and we can become quite close. I loved the aggression on the field. He is an aggressive cricketer, but off the field, he is a gentleman. He was born with a street attitude, is intelligent, and has a cricket brain too. Fabulous for India, he will be.
Even Shahid Afridi, a former all-rounder from Pakistan, termed Gambhir a positive, straightforward person.
This new opportunity is very important. It depends on what he does with it. His interviews are a bit more positive and based on basic thinking most of the time.
The New Vista of Indian Cricket
There is always a tendency to bring different perceptions to the Indian cricket team, and Gambhir’s appointment is seen from this perspective. His one-toned approach to the game and his concepts are expected to continue with the good work established by Rahul Dravid.
As Gambhir rises to the new challenges, cricket fans and followers expect him to score valuable contributions for India in the forthcoming matches and make new acclamations in the international cricket arena. As a player, Gautam has made key contributions to the team. He was the highest-scorer in the 2007 T20 World Cup and also scored a valuable 91 runs in the 2011 World Cup final. Both of his innings paved the way for India to lift the trophies.
