Seattle Seahawks Fire OC Ryan Grubb After 1 Season

Seattle Seahawks

According to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, the Seattle Seahawks fired Offensive Coordinator Ryan Grubb after one year on the job. Grubb was a hot commodity last offseason following his successful tenure in the collegiate ranks with the Washington Huskies. Washington advanced to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game when they lost to Michigan with Grubb as their OC.

The Huskies had one of the nation’s best offenses in 2023 led by Quarterback Michael Penix and Wide Receiver Rome Odunze. Penix Jr. led the nation in passing yards in his final college season and Odunze led the country in receiving yards. Unfortunately for the Seattle Seahawks, Grubb could not create that high-powered offense in his lone season as their offensive coordinator. Who will be Seattle’s OC next season?

Seattle Seahawks Season Summary

Seattle had a middling offense during the regular season even though they had arguably their best game of the season yesterday on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Geno Smith tossed a career-high four touchdown passes in yesterday’s victory.

The team’s offense, like the rest of their team, was middling during the regular season. They were 14th in total yards per game and 18th in points scored. What sunk Seattle’s playoff chances this season was their lack of success against the NFL’s top teams. That same issue plagued Grubb’s offense. Seattle’s offense was inconsistent this season. Going into each week, it was difficult to know what to expect from the offense.

Final Thoughts

Whoever is hired as the next Seattle Seahawks Offensive Coordinator will oversee an offense full of talent. Smith is a solid starting quarterback, Running Back Kenneth Walker III has potential, and the wide receiver trio of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett is one of the league’s best.

Seattle narrowly missed the playoffs this season thanks to a strength of victory tiebreaker they lost to the Rams. Grubb was seemingly not the right fit to lead the Seahawks offense, but with a solid hire, and strong offseason signings, a return to the postseason next season is possible.
