Seattle Mariners Have Thrilling Victory To Extend Winning Streak To 4

The Seattle Mariners continue to stay red-hot.

The Seattle Mariners won their fourth game in a row on Wednesday night following a 2-1 victory in 10 innings over the Houston Astros. Seattle won Wednesday’s game following a Sacrifice Fly in the bottom of the 10th inning by Shortstop J.P. Crawford that allowed the winning run to come home. The game was a pitcher’s duel that saw both starting pitchers at the top of their game.

Houston Astros Starting Pitcher Justin Verlander surrendered one earned run over seven innings of work while tying a season-high with nine strikeouts. Seattle Mariners Starting Pitcher George Kirby surrendered one earned run over six innings while punching out eight. Both bullpens pitched well last night, but Astros Relief Pitcher Tayler Scott was unable to work around the “ghost runner.” All of this led to Seattle prevailing for their fourth consecutive win.

Seattle’s winning streak consisted of taking the final game of their three-game series on the road against the Washington Nationals on Sunday and then the first three games of their four-game set against the Houston Astros. They have outscored the opposition 18-10 over their winning streak.

How long will the Seattle Mariners be able to continue their winning streak?

Seattle Mariners Season Summary

Seattle(31-26) leads the American League West by 3.5 games over the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers. Seattle boasts the fifth-best record in the American League nearly a third of the way through the 2024 regular season. Seattle has hoovered around .500 for the majority of this season and has feasted on an AL West that is down at the moment. They are 9-3 in division this season.

The Mariners have played well this season despite having one of the worst offenses in all of Major League Baseball. They are 27th in batting average, 28th in runs scored, and 10th in home runs.  The Seattle Mariners offense is led by Center Fielder Julio Rodriguez and Catcher Cal Raleigh. Rodriguez leads the team in batting average, OPS, and hits while Raleigh leads the ballclub in home runs and RBI.

Seattle’s pitching staff has been much the stronger part of the team thus far this regular season. They are ninth in ERA, ninth in strikeouts, and fourth in opposing batting average. The pitching staff is led by Luis Castillo and Logan Gilbert. Castillo leads the team in wins and strikeouts while Gilbert is 10th in the league in WHIP.

Seattle closes out their four-game set against the Houston Astros later today at home. Seattle then welcomes the Los Angeles Angels to town for a three-game series beginning on Friday. This will be the first time these divisional foes will face off this regular season. The offense of the Seattle Mariners has to get their act together so the team can reach its fullest potential in 2024.

The Mariners need to continue playing consistently as that is something they have struggled with this season. Before their four-game winning streak, the Mariners had dropped four games in a row. Seattle is looking to return to the MLB Playoffs after a disappointing 2023 campaign and qualify for the postseason for only the fourth time this century.
