Seattle Mariners Continue Wonderful Play At Home In 2024

The Seattle Mariners continue to play very well at home.

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night 5-4 as their domination at T-Mobile Park continued. Seattle won their ninth consecutive home opener last night. This streak has gone as follows with victories against the Cleveland Guardians, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Angels.

Seattle was able to walk away with the victory last night following their bullpen blowing a three-run lead. Their relievers surrendered three earned runs over three innings of work in what was a rough night at the office. Angels Designated Hitter Jo Adell hit a grand slam to tie the score in the top of the seventh frame. First Baseman Ty France then broke the 4-4 tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mariners Closer Andres Munoz shut the door in the top of the ninth inning for his 12th save of the year. His 12 saves are the eighth-most in the league.

The last time the Mariners lost a series opener at home was in their first game of the 2024 MLB season against the Boston Red Sox on March 28. Seattle has the fourth-most home wins in the league and has a record of 19-11. Their stellar home record helps make up for a sub-par record away from home(13-16).

How long will the Seattle Mariners be able to keep up their winning ways at home?

Seattle Mariners Season Summary

Seattle(32-27) is leading the American League West after winning five of their last six games. Seattle’s offense has been a bit of a mixed bag this season. They are 27th in batting average, 10th in home runs, and 28th in runs scored. Their offense is led by Center Fielder Julio Rodriguez and Catcher Cal Raleigh. Rodriguez leads the team with a .265 batting average while Raleigh leads the team in home runs(11) and RBI(31).

Seattle’s pitching staff has been the far stronger part of their team during the 2024 regular season. They are ninth in ERA, 11th in strikeouts, and fourth in opposing batting average. The Seattle Mariners pitching staff is led by Starting Pitcher Luis Castillo. He leads the team in wins(4), ERA(3.28), and strikeouts. His 75 strikeouts are tied for 12th in the entire league.

The pitching staff of the Seattle Mariners must continue to anchor the team until their offense can come around and begin to hold up their end of the bargain. Seattle’s offense was much stronger last season which makes their sluggish offensive start this season all the more surprising. Last season, they were 12th in runs scored and 11th in home runs. That sort of power surge has yet to appear during the 2024 season.
