Final Seattle Seahawks 7-Round NFL Mock Draft

Seattle Seahawks Mike Macdonald John Schneider

In a group mock draft I did on Facebook over the weekend, I took control of the Seattle Seahawks for seven rounds with other users online. It would make sense for them to trade down without a second-rounder.

But in this case, I have them saying at 16th overall and picking, as this draft will be unique since it’s the first with their new Head Coach Mike Macdonald. On days two and three, I have them addressing mostly needs on defense while addressing their interior offensive line at the top of the third round.

I have them taking a dominant interior player from Texas for the first round, as Macdonald gets his tone-setting defensive lineman.

Seahawks: Stick And Pick At 16th Overall

To start the Seahawks draft on Walk the Mock, I didn’t receive any offers to trade down, so I decided to pick 16th overall. The Seahawks have needs in the interior on both sides of the ball, so I went with the Longhorn defensive tackle Byron Murphy, potentially the first defensive player taken in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Texas defensive tackle was available at 16th overall, so Macdonald gets his new “Justin Madubuike” for Seattle. Madubuike was one of the better defensive tackles who he coached for with the Baltimore Ravens last year.

A rotation with Leonard Williams, Dre’Mont Jones, Jarran Reed, and Johnathan Hankins plugging the gap in the middle would be an upgrade for their defensive line compared to last season.

Seahawks: Addressing Trenches In Rounds 1 And 3

The Seahawks have a dire need in the interior, specifically at center but they could use two upgrades at guard.

After signing veteran Laken Tomlinson, who is their current left guard, maybe that guard need isn’t as big. But getting someone who could play both guard and center could be a valuable pick.

That is where UConn’s Christian Haynes comes in, as he has experience at right guard as a four-year starter and was considered to start at center as well.

With the 81st pick, I have Seattle getting Haynes and would be a solid selection if available in round three. The Connecticut lineman would be an upgrade for Olu Oluwatimi and Nick Harris at center or Anthony Bradford and Tremayne Anchrum Jr. at right guard.

Seahawks: Rebuilding The New “Legion of Boom”

Without Pete Carroll, nothing will be compared to the “Legion of Boom” of the past Seahawks. However, Macdonald will try to revamp a Seattle defense that has struggled in recent years.

For their two fourth-rounders at pick 102 and 118, I have them taking Georgia’s Tykee Smith and Jalyx Hunt out of Houston Christian University

Smith is a safety for the Bulldogs, but he was mostly a slot cornerback. That is where he would play in Seattle as a hard-hitting defensive back. He would be in the mix at nickel cornerback while Devon Witherspoon could play on the outside or inside as a versatile defensive back next to Riq Woolen.

Houston Christian’s Hunt would be a developmental upside edge rusher to play in a rotation involving veteran Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe.

At linebacker, I have the Seahawks addressing it on day three with Penn State’s Curtis Jacobs at pick 179 in the sixth round. Without a fifth-rounder, he would be depth behind veterans Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson, two free-agent linebackers.

With their other sixth-rounder at pick 192, they get tight depth behind Noah Fant, who they re-signed, with Washington’s Devin Culp as he stays in the area.

At pick 235 in the seventh round, Seattle gets another safety, or hybrid linebacker type in Jaylon Carlies from Missouri.

The Seahawks are missing a bigger-bodied defensive back at strong safety, with Julian Love as their free safety. They signed Rayshawn Jenkins and K’Von Wallace at the position in free agency, but some youth is needed in the backend of their defense.
