Philadelphia Eagles Running Back Saquon Barkley was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for November earlier today. Barkley has been one of the NFL’s best players, and he showcased that in November. The star running back averaged 6.7 yards per carry in November with 5 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown. Barkley signed a three-year $37.8 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason, and the contract has paid off in spades thus far this season.
He spent the first six seasons with the New York Giants after being drafted No. 2 overall by the franchise in the 2018 NFL Draft. New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen, as was illustrated on “HBO’s Hard Knocks,” seemingly did not think Barkley would command a lucrative contract on the open market. It was a massive miscalculation by the GM, and the running back has taken the league by storm this season. Will Saquon Barkley be able to keep up his spectacular level of play in December and beyond?

Barkley is leading the league in carries and rushing yards and is tied for third in the league with 11 rushing touchdowns. The Philadelphia Eagles RB is on the precipice of setting the NFL’s all-time rushing record as well. He needs 607 rushing yards over the season’s final five games to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record. He needs to average 121.4 rushing yards over the season’s final five games to rewrite the record books.
Barkley’s strong performance has him second in NFL MVP odds behind only Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen. Like it or not, the NFL MVP has become a quarterback award in recent years. The last non-QB to win the prestigious award was Adrian Peterson in 2012. The Eagles star will look to make history in a variety of ways in 2024.
Final Thoughts
Barkley will continue his march toward history at home on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Carolina has the league’s worst rushing defense by a considerable margin surrendering 166 yards per game. Philadelphia(10-2) is the NFC’s No. 2 seed and has a decent chance of getting the conference’s top seed in the NFL Playoffs.
