San Francisco Giants Ace Becomes a Free Agent

San Francisco Giants ace Blake Snell has opted out of his deal.

With the MLB season over, San Francisco Giants ace Blake Snell opted out of his deal to become a free agent. After an up-and-down season, Snell is looking to find a better deal in this free agency season. Snell had a solid second half with the Giants after a rough first half and could find a team for a new deal. Some teams are looking for a lefty pitcher within his price range and he could find a new home soon.

There are concerns for Snell after a weak first half of the season from detractors but teams in the National League could be desperate. Even with the recent players getting signed late with Scott Boras, Snell is a needed arm for a playoff team and or contender in 2025. With the MLB offseason underway, the former San Francisco Giants ace could get offers from teams that need a lefty ace.

San Francisco Giants Ace: Reasoning For Opting Out

The MLB offseason is getting hot, with San Francisco Giants ace Blake Snell having opted out from his three-year contract. Snell is opting out from his contract believing that a team could give him a better deal for the 2025 season. While Snell isn’t the same pitcher from 2020, he could still be a solid arm for a playoff contender. Snell had a weird 2024 season, with a nightmare first half of the season, but came back strong after the All-Star break.

The season for Snell happened with a late signing with the Giants for three years and started with a 5.10 ERA before the All-Star break. Snell, after a terrible first half, had a solid second half ending the season with a 3.12 ERA. He had a no-hitter against the Reds. The Giants ace, with his solid second half, will bring in the eyes of teams that want the lefty pitcher.

San Francisco Giants Ace: Potential Suiters For the Ace

Many teams want Snell that could make them a legitimate contender, including the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and other National League teams. One of the teams that could be a sleeper is the Padres who were a former team of Snell. While a reunion with the Padres is possible, the realistic teams could be the Mets, Dodgers, and or Giants again for Snell. There is also a possibility that the Dodgers could make a move for him due to injuries in their pitching staff and wanting to add more arms including the former San Francisco Giants ace.

Final Thoughts

This offseason the former San Francisco ace, Snell could do well in free agency for teams that want a lefty on their team. While the season started as a nightmare, Snell pitched like an ace during the second half of the season. Snell had a solid second half and could catch the eyes of contenders this offseason. Even with a weak beginning, the Giants ace could have teams looking for his services.

Many teams would love to have Snell on the team, including rival teams like the Giants and Dodgers. Even with a weak season from Snell, the Dodgers would love to add more starting pitching in their rotation depth. For the former San Francisco Giants ace, many roads could be taken this offseason, including a reunion or a new home in 2025.
