San Francisco 49ers Week 7 Friday Injury Report

The San Francisco 49ers have a healthy roster heading into the Chiefs game.

The San Francisco 49ers had some injury concerns this week, but most seemed to have been put to rest for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. After Friday’s practice, the injury report came out. Jordan Mason was not listed on it, and neither was Deebo Samuel.

However, there was still some negative news. The San Francisco 49ers will be without Jauan Jennings and their kickers, Jake Moody and Matthew Wright. These losses will raise concerns going into Sunday for the 49ers, perhaps even more than some people realize.

Deebo Samuel and Jordan Mason

Having Jordan Mason and Deebo Samuel cleared for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs is a big deal for the San Francisco 49ers. Mason has been the NFL’s second-leading rusher through six weeks of the season and Samuel has made a tremendous impact on the 49ers for years in both the run and pass game. Having both players out there against a defense as stifling as Kansas City is going to make it a lot harder to stop this Niners attack.

Samuel has been one of the NFL’s most explosive players since he came into the league, producing multiple big plays a season with his knack for yards after the catch. Even if he’s not the greatest route runner or man-beater as a receiver, his value with the ball in his hands cannot be denied or ignored. He and Mason will force Chiefs Defensive Coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, to put most if not all of his cards on the table for Kansas City defensively.

The Loss of Jauan Jennings and the Kickers

Having neither their starting nor replacement kicker is certainly going to play a factor in Sunday’s game for the San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs through six weeks of 2024 have a top-10 red zone defense in terms of giving up touchdowns only 46.67% of the time. That means San Fran should be forced into at least a couple of situations where they’re going to have to kick, and that could pose problems for them. The Niners are using former Packers kicker Anders Carlson to kick this week. His six missed field goals last year could raise legitimate concerns.

Perhaps an even bigger loss to overcome is Jennings. Listed as the wide receiver three, Jennings has been having a career year to start the season. Through six weeks, he’s tenth in the NFL in receiving yards. Even worse for the San Francisco 49ers is that this game would’ve been the perfect matchup for him to succeed. The Chiefs run Cover 0 the second most in the NFL so far this year, a coverage that Jennings feasts on.

To make matters worse, Deebo Samuel has the second-worst yards per route run versus man coverage this season. The good news for the San Francisco 49ers is that their rookie first round Wide Receiver Ricky Pearsall is making his debut this week. He’ll have to step up big time in Jennings’ absence.

Final Thoughts

The San Francisco 49ers injury report for Friday looks more optimistic than disappointing. Even with the losses of their kickers and Jauan Jennings, San Francisco is keeping two of their most important offensive weapons on the field. Both of them are going to need big performances to get the San Francisco 49ers the revenge they desire.
