San Diego Padres Starting Pitcher Dylan Cease had a dominant pitching performance on Wednesday afternoon against the Chicago Cubs. He surrendered one earned run over 6.2 innings and struck out 12 batters for only the second time in his career. Cease set a career-high when he struck out 13 batters on June 26, 2022, against the Baltimore Orioles.
Cease has only surrendered more than two earned runs in one start thus far this season. It was against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 27. Cease has gotten off to a great start this season. He is 5-2 with an ERA of 2.19. He is top 20 in wins, ERA, and strikeouts across the league.
Will Cease be able to continue his hot start?

San Diego Padres Season Summary
The Padres(20-20) have gotten off to a slow start overall this season. They have been unable to put together a sustained level of success this season. San Diego lost five straight games in late April and then proceeded to win four straight games.
San Diego has the second-highest scoring offense in the league in addition to being top 10 in a variety of other offensive categories including home runs, batting average, OPS, and Slugging Percentage. Their offense is paced by Left Fielder Jurickson Profar, who is top 10 in the league in both batting average and RBI.
The team’s issues have been as it pertains to their pitching staff. San Diego is 21st in ERA and has surrendered the third-most home runs in the league. Outside of Cease, the rest of the San Diego Padres pitching staff has not held up their end of the bargain. Starting Pitcher Michael King has an ERA of 4.29 and Joe Musgrove has an ERA of 6.37.
The San Diego Padres must see their pitching improve massively to make the MLB Playoffs after missing out last season. With so many marquee players on the roster, San Diego should have a far better record.
Padres Upcoming Schedule
The San Diego Padres has an off day on Thursday before beginning a six-game divisional homestand against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies.
