However, Wembanyama won the Rookie of the Year last year and was under consideration for Defensive Player of the Year last season. He lost the award to Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Scheduled For Christmas Day
To everyone’s surprise, the San Antonio Spurs will be scheduled for a Christmas Day game this upcoming NBA season against the New York Knicks on the road. This will be the first time that Victor Wembanyama will be playing on this day on National TV. He will be entering his second NBA season. Wembanyama last season with the Spurs played in 71 games. He averaged 21.4 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 3.9 APG, 3.6 BPG, and 1.2 SPG. The blocks per game last season he averaged was ridiculous.
The Spurs may be one of the worst teams in the NBA in 2024-2025, but they could be fun to watch. Chris Paul signed with San Antonio this offseason. Paul is toward the end of his NBA career. What will be fun about the matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks is watching Jalen Brunson. Brunson is the best player on the New York Knicks roster. They were the number two seed in the Eastern Conference a season ago. New York lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.
Some view the Knicks as a possible team to knock off the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference for the 2024-2025 season. They also acquired Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. The New York Knicks are going for it this year. As for the Spurs, they will have to wait and be patient in being a serious title contender in a very tough Western Conference. At some point, Victor Wembanyama will be the face of the NBA. For now, some view Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks as the face of the NBA.
It would not be a surprise to see Victor Wembanyama put up MVP numbers in his second NBA season at just 20 years old. Shams Charnia of The Athletic announced on Thursday that the Spurs would be playing on Christmas Day this season. The other four games for Christmas Day will be the Minnesota Timberwolves vs the Dallas Mavericks, the Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers vs Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets vs Phoenix Suns. The full 2024-2025 NBA schedule is not out yet. It will be interesting to see what other national TV games the San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wembanyama get this season.
